Yesterday, I finally got my first reloaded rounds punched out. I've been accumulating equipment and knowledge for some time, so it was time to test it all out. I made 30 rounds of 9mm using 124gr Precision Delta bullets and WSF. I made 10 each of 4.8gr, 5.0gr, and 5.2gr. Now I can't wait to get out to the range to test them out in my G19 and G26. Hopefully, that will be in the next few days. If all goes well, I will move on to 38sp and .40S&W and eventually on to .223. I still have to get dies and case prep equipment for the .223. |

I remember doing my first reloads back in 1986. I couldn't wait to go out and shoot them. Funny thing...since then every time I reload a new caliber I have that same feeling all over again... even though I know they will go back and work properly.
Keep it up!! Ken |

awesome and colorful.
What did you use to color your cases? |

Quoted: great it's exciting starting out. I can't seem to see your pictures ![]() Remember posting pics in a technical forum like here, is optional. Please don't bring GD "rules" here. Welcome rmrrm to the Reloading Forum. Update this thread after you have shot your rounds so we can welcome you to the Reloading Club. |

I went out to the range today to test my loads. All three versions fired without issue. I examined the fired cases and no signs of pressure, excess powder residue, etc. I think the 5.0gr load grouped a little better than the others, but I wasn't really testing for accuracy. I just wanted to make sure I didn't blow anything up. Yes, I'm hooked. Can't wait to try 38sp and 40S&W. |

glad they worked good for you welcome to the disease.
pics are optional but i love to see em, it adds something to your thread and you should be proud of those as well as your method for making sure which loads are which. one of the last times i did a load work up i wrapped my reloading tray in cling wrap and most of the loads ended up mixed up the multi colored sharpies would have saved me a basically wasted range trip. again welcome and let us know how it goes with this and your future to reload calibers. I am just getting in to reloading for the 40 got my dies and a lyman 49th manual on the way as well as 1k plated 165 gr hollowpoints from xtreme and a new mag. |

Will take a while for the smile to fade now that you know you can successfully reload your own ammo. It's a great hobby.

There's nothing that quite matches the thrill and fun of shooting the first round. |

I shot my first 124 gr 9 mm reloads, which were my first reloads of any kind, a couple of months ago. The first one was a little exciting and nerve wracking, but every round has went off without a hitch since. Now, I can't reload fast enough to keep up with the amount of shooting I've been doing |

Welcome to the club. I also decided to start reloading to save $$ (I now have more reloading equipment than I'll probably ever offset the cost of - my son will reap the benefits when I'm long gone. haha)
I also waited for 20+ years before undertaking this. While I've only been reloading centerfire for about 3 years, I still consider myself a novice. A number of false starts with equipment was frustrating. Should've followed the adage about buying once and crying once and been done with it. I've got some equipment I'll never use. Hey! you gotta learn somehow. Getting set up for the pistol (9 & 45) was relatively easy. Moving on the the rifle cartridges was a bit more challenging and generated more angst. Some cartridges just plain took longer to work up. But once done, it now allows me to load up in bulk when I want to, and leaves me able to experiment with fine tuning for accuracy/performance. good luck with your endeavors! |

Quoted: reloading is pretty cool. I put off reloading pistol rounds for 20 years because I was afraid I might mess up because of the small powder charges. I decided to give it a try this year as 45acp ammo is so high around here I cant afford it any more. Damn was I ever so stupid for not reloading pistol ammo. In my opinion it is by far easier than reloading for a rifle and powder goes way farther as well. I also bought a lead pot and a big bucket of wheel weights as well...but that is another story! random pics for the pic guys http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k632/Captain_Howdy1/leadthings.jpg http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k632/Captain_Howdy1/2012-03-27_20-35-26_792.jpg http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k632/Captain_Howdy1/2012-03-22_20-56-05_13.jpg As for some of the lead that didnt suit me...well I like to go salt water fishing as well and you would not believe the savings you get buy making your own edit: win 213 is way better than unique...didnt take me long to learn that. I love win 231 it shoots so clean Thanks for the pics. Putting that woodworking bench to good use.

Not to derail the topic, but is that a harbor freight bench yup, I got it on sale too. theres no way I couldve even bought the wood and built it myself at that price. for what I do that bench is plenty sturdy. It is what it is I guess. I took an oak board I had and drilled a couple of holes in it and bolted it down with big bolts and wingnuts. ran the bolts through the dowel holes in the bench top. 3/4 inch thick oak is surprisingly strong. I have resized 308 mil brass on it and the oak will flex but has given no indications of breaking. I wasnt gonna push the cheap chinese butcher block. It doesnt have the right 'feel' to it for doing any hard work if you now what I mean. It's all about reloading man |

I wasn't putting it down I was just curious as to how it would hold up during use, I almost bought one myself before I decided to build my bench. LOL no worries sir! I would never have taken what you said in a bad way |
