Does anyone have a build they've done or plans for a primer and a powder magazine?  I have several buddies that I let reload on my presses.  I would like to have a magazine for the powders and another for primers.

NFPA 495 specifies a wooden magazine with walls 1" thick. I thought about it for a while and figured that the cheapest and easiest answer was the good old 2x6. 3 of them wide by 3 of them tall and about 36" long. Nail or screw the bottom and sides together and build a top the same size as the bottom. Screw a 3/8 or 1/2" plywood sheet the size of the inside of the box to the bottom of the lid. This way it will locate correctly and will not create a sealed case in the event of ignition. This stores 50+ lbs of powder in 8 / 4 / 1 lb canisters and is light enough to put under a desk or out of the way.

Do the same box type for primers, but make the box 3 boards wide, 2 boards tall and ~24" long. 10k primers fit with room for expansion if they ever up the limits

Might be a bit overkill, but I like 'em that way.

At one time I built my powder magazine with 1x4's and dry wall board....Figured that if it every went off the drywall would give way to the gasses, instead of containing and creating a boom....

Got any pictures of this set up?

One I made a while ago out of 2x4 and 2x6"s.

Finished this one not long ago. Made with scrap 2x4's and 2x6's glued up and ripped down to 1 inch thick.

For the weak sides, I used finish nails and no glue to hold the sides together.

Going to do a powder mag next.

Thank you.  Yours was the post that I was trying to find.  My searches weren't finding it though.

I love ARFcom.  What did we all do before the internet?

Reason I went smaller and used 1 inch thick wood on the second one is the first mag was so heavy.

Couple more pics, here making sure sides are big enough so 5k boxes will fit.

Ready to glue up a panel.

Can also be used for the 1k boxes. Have to lay down the Federal boxes.

Internet and Arfcom, easy to learn stuff.
