Anybody have some good loads for wc844 pull down powder in 223? I am looking for all grain and type of bullets.  I understand it follows h335 data but I still like to know what other people have had success with.  Any knowledge is appreciated.

WC844 is "LIKE H335" but it has a substantially wider lot to lot variance in the burn rate.  Unless you get load data from someone using the same lot # any load data provided to you will be pretty much meaningless, and possibly dangerous.

Use H-335 data for the bullet weight you are loading.

Begin loading at the "start" load (lowest powder charge shown) and work up watching for pressure signs.

It's not hard and you will learn how to "work up a load" a valable skill in handloading.

Good luck

I'm curious about whether you bothered to read through the threads on the first three pages of the forum, or looked through the tacked threads.

I don't think many people do...

Take all your 844 (if you have more than 1 bottle w/mixed lot numbers) and pour it all in a clean pail....  mix well, pour back into bottles,, now you have 1 large lot to play with.

25.5gr and 55gr bullet for blasting here in 11.5" and 7.5" barrels

With 844, work around with rough numbers for 335,, remember,, 844 is not 335,, it is something like 335

I was loading with H335 so when the guy selling the WC844 was like H335 I bought a bottle.
When I used the same charge as my mild H335 55gr load, the WC844 was a little slower. My H335 55gr. load was 25.0gr but with WC844 I bumped it up to 25.2 grains. These were with Hornady 55gr FMJ BT with Cannelure. Case length was 1.755 and bullet depth was set to the cannelure. Mainly toward the bottom of the cannelure to help get the bullet closer to the lands. This was with LC brass. 25.2gr load averaged 2750fps. out of my 16" SIG 516
More recently I loaded some PPU 62gr FMJ BT (lead core) and was trying to get close to 3000 fps to somewhat replicate NATO green tip with out the steel core. I started at 24.4gr and work up small batches in .2gr increments up to 25.0 grains. All fell short of the target velocity. Next batch started at 25.2gr. and went up to 26.0gr. The 26.0 averaged at 3000fps but accuracy sucked. 25.2gr. gave best accuracy with ~2" 100 yard groups and averaged around 2900fps. They were all LC 03 brass trimmed to 1.760" and overall length of 2.260 to just fit in my mags.
62gr. loads were tested in my SIG M400 with 20" medium heavy barrel 1/8 twist, free floated. This gun will hold 1MOA with Federal 69gr GMM.

All in all the price was nice on the 844 powder and I will make a bunch of ammo for just regular practice and 3 gun where the targets are generally less then 50 yards, but I am not overly impressed with the consistency I got with this powder. I don't think I will be buying anymore when this 8# bottle is gone.

This is what I do!

I just got my first jug of WC844 and did my workups. Using LC cases, Hornaday 55gr FMJBT, CCI primers. Started at 24gr and worked up to 26 gr. No signs of overpressure, and 25gr seemed to shoot best. My pet load for these hornadays is 25.5 gr of H335, so it is pretty close. I like the powder, what is not to like at 1/2 the price of H335? Not looking forward to having to workup a load whenever I get a new lot, but with that kind of savings, I am ok with it.

so since i primarily shoot my 10 inch SBR with a can on it i can stick to the low side with the powder since all it's going to do is make a bigger flash or wear on my can more?

now at the same time can i load on the higher side to make a larger flash if i just want to mess around being loud and bright?
