I'm just getting into reloading and my local shop said that the Lee Turret Press (Classic) Kit that they have is the best way to get into reloading with a good press for cheap. Is this true? Is it a good press? I'm looking for something decent that is affordable. Their price is $220. Any info is appreciated, as I am new to this. Thanks!

i started with the Lee Classic and it has been great for .223
I am getting started in pistol and will probably start looking at a progressive for quantity

The price seems high if it is the press i am thinking about. You can get the single stage kits from midway for around $100

I started (and still use) a Lee 4-hole turret press. It certainly gets the job done, and I don't have any significant complaints with it. I would, however, suggest that if you plan on doing high volume (>500 in a sitting) to skip the turret press and get a progressive. That is my eventual plan. In calibers that I don't shoot much in, I intend to keep using the turret press. I really want a progressive press for 9/40 as I want higher volume than I can safely crank out on the turret press.

Depends on the kit.  I got mine from Kempf
They include a die set for the caliber of your choice.  I went with the Pro Auto Disk upgrade as well.  I have been happy with it so far.  I reload .45acp and .40 S&W

The Lee Turret is an excellent and affordable piece of gear.  Lee is cheap, but that doesn't mean it's cheap.  It's made in the USA and is backed by excellent customer service.  Is it the "Cadillac" or reloading equipment?  No... But you don't need to pay Cadillac prices when a Chevy will get you around just fine.

One thing, though... You probably won't like the prime on the press feature... Blow the $25 and grab a Lee hand primer.  It give you good feel for the primers and then you can sit and prime your brass when you're watching TV at night.

I started on a lee loader :

These things are fun , everything you need is in that box (except a mallet) you can do reloading at the range if you want to work up loads.

Then moved to a lee turret , then Dillon 550B . I love the turret and still use it for a few calibers.

Can't go wrong with the Lee Turret.

*Learning curve is minimal
*Nice rate of ammo production pistol /.223
*Easy to change out turrets to different calibers.
*You'll always have it around.

Agree with other Kemps is sells the best package deal on the net.

You'll also need a couple of other support  items to add to the kit.  Such as Imperial Die Wax (Lee lube is good to go also) tumbler, calipers , get the Lee accu measure spoons with the conversion chart. etc.

Get the LEE Classic Turret, not the aluminum press.

I started with a lee single stage classic and then bought a lee pro 1000 progressive. Like the others said, they are not a cadillac but they get the job done. I still use both and have been thinking about upgrading to a higher priced brand but just haven't convinced myself that the extra money will be worth it. Like 45 said the auto prime on the press leaves something to be desired so I no longer use that feature. I got a lee hand primer and now I sit and watch tv while I prime
Good luck and rest assured that the lee presses will serve you well.

The Lee Classic Turret is a great press , if your good with your hands you can get 300 + in an hour out of it. I found  priming system to work very well . Some complain about the indexing washer, theres nothing wrong with it mine was at 22K when I switched to another press. The only thing that I found that sucked and it was my error was I let the primer disposal tube fill and they got packed in the ram
