Seems from glancing around a little today Ramshot has published data using True Blue.
Looked through VihtaVouri, LaPua, Sierra, Hornady, Hodgdons and others. Surprised how little there is for data. Anyone load 5.7x28 ? I don't but my buddy Jason bought a P90. We were visiting long enough for me to get curious who does and powder case capacity ? Specifically curious what percentage of case is used with say, 5.5 grains of True Blue ? |
| Lyman #49 suggests it is a difficult to reload. The info listed is for the FiveSeven pistol, so cant comment on the p90. Apparently the pistol is hard on brass and can only be reloaded 2-3 times. Also very sensitive to charge weight This would likely explain the lack of reloading data. |

I just started tinkering with it. I don't have my data around, but I'm using HS-6 and BlueDot.
Around 3.1 grains HS-6 with 55 grain FMJs gave a nice subsonic load (my PS-90 is an SBR). Very minimal shoulder movement and functions the gun very well. Around 6 grains BlueDot with 40 grain Nosler BTs also functions the gun perfectly with minimal shoulder movement (supersonic of course). The FiveSeven forums have a wonderful section on reloading for the round. The things to watch for are deterioration of the coating (don't tumble the brass, wash in simple green for a few minutes, then rinse clean and dry), and excessive shoulder movement. This seems to be the most common failure point, as pushing the shoulder back and forth by firing, then sizing, is rough on the brass... A lot of the charges listed leave plenty of room to double or triple charge a case if you aren't careful. I bought a RCBS pattern case trimmer shell holder from Elite Ammo. Hornady will supposedly custom make a shell plate for the LnL press or Elite makes shell plates for the Dillon 550, but other than those progressives, it's single stage (and much safer IMHO) all the way. Anyways, please don't use my data, as I'm going by memory on the charge weights. |

I have loaded for it in the past. Just be careful, (which you should always be, when reloading anything), and you will be fine.
I didn't try to load anything exotic. I duplicated the 40 grain V-Max load, and I loaded some 55 grain FMJ. No problems with either one. There is lots of informal load data out there that seems pretty hot to me. |

If it is a true P90 please do not shoot reloads. Too valuable of a rifle to risk blowing up.
A good friend I mine tried to load for his PS90 and gave up after the mag blew up a couple times. I trust his reloads, he is meticulous at loading, but the 5.7 is a dangerous critter. He best described the reloads as unpredictable, some would leave unburnt powder in the barrel and not eject the case, some cycled just fine, and every now and then the mag popped out the top. He sold everything he had for reloading 5.7, saying it was not worth blowing up his rifle. On a side note. The CCI .50 primer trays work great for holding 5.7 brass... |
| I just do the 5.7 pistol but if you check out fivesevenforum.com they do it all in the reload section.I know that FN uses ramshot true blue in a bit different formula for their factory ammo (or so I have heard). It seems to work well;also,DHX bullets recreates some of the 27 grain pills for reloading.I have stuck to the pulled SS197sr for my loads and have not advanced very far.I have got good accuracy and mediocre velocity so far and want to fall back on it when I get the time.It has just been slow going for me.I guess you have noticed all the be careful and sensitive round info out there. There are people at dillion that even say you cant reload it. |

I've read the stories about problems and I save all the brass I pick up in case I buy a firearm for the cartridge, and some day when I have time I need to read the 5.7 forum to find out the nuances and what they are doing.
I've read vague comments about the firearms relying on the varnish on the outside of the case to insure function; seems odd, but that's not even close to the strangest thing I've seen, either. |

The laquer on the cases is to help in feeding from the 50 round mags and aids in extraction. Some people report no issues after removing it, some people report nothing but issues after removing it... Gotta love the internet. |

I don't think he's ever set up a press for himself. Pulled plenty of 650 and 1050 handles. His dad's got a T7. That ought to be the perfect press for him to learn die tuning. He can set up Redding powder drop to one side and measure his powder one cartridge at a time. 5.7 sounds unforgiving so he'd best measure each load on digital scale or use a forgiving powder. No one using True Blue ? |

The FN P90 is a select fire weapon unavailable to us mere citizens. The PS90 is a semi-auto only of which I own 1 of.
I've had the joy of shooting a full auto P90, 2 mags worth. It was a total kick-ass blast. More fun than a full auto AR or AK. I have all the components to reload 5.7 but I haven't had time to try it out. |

I've read the stories about problems and I save all the brass I pick up in case I buy a firearm for the cartridge, i was saving my brass from my FSN and PS90 but in the end decided the cartridge is just too finicky for me. i sold all my brass and used the money to buy projectiles for my 556.....:) i do love shooting my 5.7x28 weapons! eddie |

I reloaded 5.7 several years ago when my son had a PS90. Found out after the fact that tumbling cases is not a good thing. In the PS90 it causes the gun to be unreliable as cases without the coating on the case had a tendency to stick in the chamber. They would extract manually but defeated the purpose of a semi auto.
Loaded both Speer 33 grain and Hornady 40 grain bullets with Accurate Arms #7 powder using data from Ramshot's web site. Can't speak to how well cases hold up as we only reloaded them once. Fun gun to shoot. |

I own a PS90, and have been saving all of my brass to reload eventually, but haven't gotten around to it yet. A while back, I looked into adding an AR57 upper to my collection, but from the research I found, these uppers mangle the brass pretty thoroughly on ejection, enough so that I dropped the idea, and decided to stick with shooting 5.7x28 from my PS90 exclusively.
However, YMMV. Dirt |
