Ok so this will be my first time working up loads for my ar's.  What's the choice powder for 300+ yards shooting 69gr. SMK and 55gr. X193 (type projectile) that works well with both weights out of a 1:7 and 1:8 barrel?  Basicly what should be my first powder to buy, I'll be sooting paper and coyotes and possibly deer.

Thanks for the help!

ETA:  I'm reloading .30-06 and .300 Win. Mag. also so if any powder works well with those rounds that makes it even better!

From your list, Tac.

But also look at a couple of newer powders, IMR-8208 XBR and CFE 223.

Varget (long extruded powder) has a following, but it measures very poorly from a powder measure.

Most people who use it measure it from an electronic powder measure $275-$300. Not for me.

A standard PM will measure Tac and CFE 223 (both ball powders) and IMR-8208 XBR (short extruded powder) very well.

Powders for 223 are not very efficient if used in 30-06 and 300 WM. Use different powders (slower burning) for those cartridges.

Plus 1 for TAC.  Have a 550 and it works great.

+ 1 for TAC
It's what I use for plinking and varmints, also seems to be forgiving with accuracy out of my 16" 1:9 all of my work up loads shot great.

Thanks for the imput guys!  I'll look into the IMR 8208 a bit more.  I have both a lee auto disc and a RCBS measure but not digital scale.  Still have a lot to learn but I'm getting there.

Thanks again

For the bit Heaver bullets, I have used Benchmark,  and H322 for good results, had always wanted to use XBR, but never seen it on the shelf when I had the money..

Wow?  I would have thought that H335 would have made the list instead of "other"...shows you what I thought I knew...

I am switching from Varget to CFE223. Getting good groups and relative steady velocities from Varget, but do not want to do compressed loads when loading to max. Since I haven't done the compressed loads to the max, why bother. From what I have been hearing, the CFE223 is the new way to go and now there is data out for it. When I started my work up loads with Varget there was not any data out yet. I tried BCL2 and H322 also. Varget was my best grouping with 68 grain bullets.

Depending on where in Az, the TAC might not work too well for you, temp sensitive and generally for lighter bullets.
There are better powders for the 69 gr, I would opted for something like the 8208 or the CFE, altho I've not tried the CFE.

I use Varget for my target and varmint loads.  It does meter very poorly.  I have gotten pretty good at trickling up each load.  It does mean every powder charge has to be weighed.

When you get tied of all of that trickling, try some IMR-8208 XBR or CFE 223. Same or better accuracy.

wc844 or h335. wc844 is much cheaper, but most everywhere is out for good apparently.
