| does anyone here use IMR 700X to reload 9mm. I saw in one of my manuals that 700X is listed in a few of the 9mm loads. I use this stuff for shotgun and usually have plenty of it around so if it works good for the 9mm I'll probably use it when I get around to loading some. |

700X works well for 9mm. I've got a rule to walking in a gun shop. Never walk out without a pound of powder. This keeps me in load development. 700 was one I used last year with same results I was getting from Titegroup. about how many loads to you get per pound with the 700x? |

With a load of 3.5 gr you'll get 2000 rounds per pound....more or less depending on the powder charge you use.
I have a couple of the older 12 lb. round barrel looking cans of the stuff. I don't remember buying them, so they must have come as extras in a couple used reloading gear deals in the past from shotgunners. Just started using it for my cast lead .38 Special loads. Works fine in that application too. Will be using it wherever I can till it's all gone. |

700X is considered to be one of alliants "dirty" powders by many reloaders (along with Bullseye and Unique)
I consider it to be one of my old stand by powders. It is a bit "sooty" but that is easily cleaned. Keep an eye out for a trap and skeet guy who for some reason has stopped reloading and watch for a deal on a keg -o-powder. Many of the trap and skeet powders are the very same powders that work well for a wide range of pistol reloading Clays,Blue dot,Green dot , red dot, Unique,700X |

I use 700x almost exclusively for 9mm. It is very dirty and smokey. Meters ok for a flake powder in several types of powder measures. Why do I use it? It is dirt cheap, I usually buy it at 12 bucks a pound at a local shop. That means I am loading 9mm lead for around 8 cents a round.
Word of caution. The acceptable range for loads is rather narrow. Load development is critical and staying with in or greater then lengths listed in the manuals will be important. It seems to be less forgiving in this aspect then other powders. |
