| I have always in the past just deprimed at the same time that I use my resizing die. Today I bought a Lee decapping die at a very low price. Do I have to keep the "decapping pin" I guess it would be called in the resizing size to accuratley resize each time? So, if I have brass that does not need deprimed can I resize without the decapping pin in the resizing die? I hope this makes sense the way I worded it. Thanks |

No. Yes. But I use a Lee decapping die on my single stage press. Then I tumble the brass to clean it. I leave the decap pin in the resizing die on my turret press to make sure there's no media stuck in the flash hole.
ETA: listen to the guy below me. I forgot about the expander ball. |

If you look at your resizing die pin you will see that it is thicker at one point. This is the expander ball to make sure the inside of the case mouth is resized back to normal. This helps to ensure proper neck tension when re-inserting new projectiles. In short, yes, you need to keep the pin in the resizing die.
The lee univresal decapper is mainly used to deprime before throwing the cases in the tumbler to help clean out primer pockets. I also use it to decap brass of other calibers I find at the range that I do not reload. |

The answer would be yes if you were using RCBS dies. With Lee dies, keep the decapping stem in the die. My RCBS 7.62x39 dies I use to load Berdan cases, notice decapping stem has been removed. I use Lee 7.62x39 dies for loading Boxer primed cases. RCBS on left, Lee on right. 2 sizing dies on the right, one for each bullet diameter I use. Lee dies in a RCBS box. |
| I ran into this problem with a bunch of primed cases that i needed to resize. I ended up just buying a spare sizing/decapping pin and snapped the decapping pin off so only the ball was left. They (lee) is making the NEW pins as one piece, which I like very much, so a grinder is in order to remove the pin. You need the ball on the pin to resize the neck after the case is resized. This is with Lee dies. YMMV |
