Has anyone use the SR 405 Media separator? http://www.natchezss.com/category.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=UYVBSR00525    Is it me or is this thing a piece of s_ _ _ .  You put the cases in cage then have to assemble the handles if you can push then into place with out dropping cage.  Any suggestions on how this thing works?

It works quite well for me.  Except for color, that item is identical to the RCBS and Graff's media separators.  You set the bottom on a counter or bench, place the OPEN but assembled inner cage in the bottom with the handle axes in their slots, pour in the brass, then close the cage (latch it together!) and then close the top.  Spin those handles vigoruously in both directions for a minute or so and your brass will be 99% free of media.

Or...buy a big plastic colander for $3 and use a 1/4" drill bit to bore out larger holes.

I have an RCBS just like that, I'm thinking they are all about the same just different colors, mine works extremely well, the action does an extremely good job of getting the media out of the cases.

They have a weak spot, the hinges on the outside cover are very poor, but you can work with it.

I have the RCBS version (looks like exactly the same thing), and I love it.  No media goes flying around when separating.  Had it for years, and it works great.

I've got the RCBS version too, from Midway.

Hint, it's a lot cheaper at Cabelas.  It's even green like the RCBS.

If you pour just a little too much brass into the lower half of the cage while it's perched on the bin - it'll drop sideways into the bin on the side without the handle.  Gotta watch for that.  I use it to spin 5.56 and stainless steel pins, so it gets 'overloaded' fast if you're not careful.

And I agree that they work great.

Cuts my separating and rinsing time down to 15% of what it was.

I've got the Frankford Arsenal version which is slightly different but pretty much the same design with cheap plastic. It does work very well for what it is though so I can't see the need to upgrade to anything else.
