Alright I bit the bullet and bought a .308 (Savage Model 10). I have Winchester Large Rifle on hand, but I'm wondering if I should just get some Federal Gold Medal Match Primers? I am thinking Varget for the powder (I have a chargemaster and load my .223 with Varget) as for bullets I currently have about 50 168 Amaxs I'll try first. If those show promise I may stick with them otherwise I'll be buying some 168 SMKs. As always, any advice is always appreciated.

Federal Gold Matches and CCI BR-2s are favorites for precision, but, realistically, you could get good results from standard large rifle primers. Va rget is also a favorite powder on a lot of benches, but also check out IMR4895, BL-C(2), Benchmark, and, if you got the money, some of the Vihtvouri powders are real good, but expensive.

I've had very good luck with the CCI BR-2 primers in .308.

Federal 210's work great for my AR10. Accurate and reliable.

168 gr Hornady Amaxs in a Hornady case, 46 grains of Varget, CCI LR primers and Chronied at 2850 fps, over 4400 rounds so far and shoots amazingly accurate.

CCI 200 large rifle primers, FC cases, 44 grain of Varget, 40 grain of Benchmark, 43 grain IMR 4895 have worked well for me.

I use all of the Federal large rifle primers, and prefer them.
