Alright I bit the bullet and bought a .308 (Savage Model 10). I have Winchester Large Rifle on hand, but I'm wondering if I should just get some Federal Gold Medal Match Primers? I am thinking Varget for the powder (I have a chargemaster and load my .223 with Varget) as for bullets I currently have about 50 168 Amaxs I'll try first. If those show promise I may stick with them otherwise I'll be buying some 168 SMKs. As always, any advice is always appreciated.

| Federal Gold Matches and CCI BR-2s are favorites for precision, but, realistically, you could get good results from standard large rifle primers. Va rget is also a favorite powder on a lot of benches, but also check out IMR4895, BL-C(2), Benchmark, and, if you got the money, some of the Vihtvouri powders are real good, but expensive. |
