| Is anyone using Accurate 2200 for 55 gr bullets in a 5.56? I would like to see some velocities with this powder and a 16" barrel. |

2200 is a pretty fast powder to run in an AR. It may work fine and it may not produce enough port pressure to cycle the action. Read it here from AA powder.
http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DP2200.pdf Accurate lists about 3150 with a Max charge of 2200/55gr bullet out of a 24 inch barrel. Plug that into Quickload and reduce to 16 inch barrel and you get about 2850fps. http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/accurate_load_data_3.5.pdf |

Using a 1/9 twist AR 16" barrel ( nothing fancy ) with Hornady 55 gr. jacketed Spire Point bullets with an RCBS case mic showing 0.0 shoulder to case head dimension, ( My chamber dimension ) on once fired Win 85 brass, Win WSR primer, brass trimmed to 1.75" & a COAL of 2.225" length:
Best group average I had was around 1.4" with 22.7 grains of 2200 powder. Speeds were averaging around 2950 FPS. YMMV. Be safe. Work up if you decide to go with this powder or not. These are MY results. It is a cheap powder to use. If you are loading bulk, I wouldn`t have a problem with it for plinking at 100. I may can do better but work schedule and life has held me back somewhat from dedicating serious time to a better load. Won`t say I am the best shooter either. Just like small groups as most do. Finicky bunch we are. |
