I'm looking for recommendations on a good case trimmer.  I reload over 30 calibers and don't do thousands of each.  I've got the Possom Hollow trimmers and like them, but the don't work for everything.  I've been using an older Lyman.  Any experience with other brands of lathe type trimmers?

Thanks!

I am using the RCBS for 30-06 and it might be good for you because its easy to switch calibers.

I also have the Guiraud for 5.56 and it is fantastic, but I aimagine very much of a pain to readjust caliber to caiber.

I've used the Forster Original for 40 years....finally motorized it when the wrist joints got tired.

Works for nearly every caliber except .50 and has 3-way cutters which trims, chamfers, & deburrs for

.224, .243, .264, .284, .308....and counting.  Video below trims .308.....click the picture.

thanks.

you inspired me to motorize my forster.  I took a hand held straight power screw driver thats been collecting dust for 8 years now. cut off the battery section, which then made it only about 4" long.  mounted a flip switch on top of it, soldered it up to a 9volt power supply. tapped out the tool head so it screws into the forster directly. runs like a champ. just need to get the 3 in 1 heads now.

If you wait a bit RCBS is coming out with a Trim Pro 2 with Universal Shell Holder, that coupled with a power assembly would cover just about everything....

Since you are reloading short runs for 30 Different Calibers I would say go with the Rolls Royce of Lathe Style Trimmers- Redding 2400.   It is very fast to load and trim brass and the trimmer has a micrometer which once setup properly will make it very easy for you to dial in various calibers.  The Redding 2400 also has a universal collet chuck so no shell holders or additional collets to buy and the 2400 comes with 6 Pilots including: 22 cal., 6mm, .25 cal., .270 cal., 7mm and .30 cal.  Handles cases up to 3.25" in length.  Check it out.

I have used a number of trimmers. The one I like the most is the Forster Original.

I also use the Giraud for 5.56 and 30-06.  Swapping out calibers couldn't be easier if you use a lock ring from an old set of dies, and a separate blade for each caliber.

I have just gotten the lyman trimmer and its worked well for me so far, ive only set it up for one caliber, so far. i can see it being a bit tedious but i have a "dummy" case trimmed to length that i chuck in then adjust till its correct pretty good repeatability so far.
