I just got my reloading kit press in yesterday. Well, my dies came today and I decided I would clean/deprime and resize cases today. I don't have a tumbler yet so I decided to clean them myself with a home made solution. Got them cleaned, dried them and then proceeded to set up the die to deprime and resize. Well, I lubed the case and pulled the lever. When I pull the lever back this happened––––––>http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/TTUBassAngler/photo37.jpg

What did I do wrong?

Is that a Lee decapping rod???

If so your answer is you have to tighten the piss out of the jamb nut that holds it in.  I gently nestle my Lee dies sizing dies in a vice, set the capping rod height, and then tighten the jamb nut with the CLOSED side of a box end wrench (doesn't slip and round things off unlike open end wrenches), and crank it down TIGHT.

Tightening the collet on a Lee die is a compromise.

Too loose and it doesn't stay put.

Too tight and it will break if a Berdan primed case is attempted to be sized.

This is a desirable designed in feature.

Reread the instructions, but don't over tighten.

It's a 2 wrench adjustment.

Good luck.

I never could seem to get it tight enough not to move using the 2 wrench method, which is why I went to the "vice and crank it" method.

But I guess following the instructions should be tried first.

Most commercial cartridge manufacturers specify a 0.082" flash hole diameter. There are an increasing number of manufacturers using a 0.058" to 0.062" flash hole on some of the target cases such as the PPC, 6BR, and 223 Remington. If you are checking the .082" flash holes, use a #45 wire size drill bit as a gage. Great photo- Its the reason for my first and never again purchase of Lee dies.    Bored? Photo Album > Link

A vice is ok if you don't overtighten.

I use 2 wrenches with die mounted in press.
