Anyone have a web site that shows what the going rate for scrap brass is?  I called two of my local scrap yards and found there to be a .50/lb difference between price.  I would like it if there was a site that showed what the rate was so I could watch the price if it fluctuates and know when I should be selling or storing my crap brass until prices rise.  I remember looking a few months back but couldn't find anything.  I wish to avoid having to call the scrap places on a monthly basis just to get a quote.

On the several occasions that I've sold some scrap, there were several local places that had very little correlation between what the 'going rate' was and what they felt like paying.  Sometimes it's just a local thing, but some places pay whatever fraction of the going rate they feel like, and it's not always the same fraction.

One place pointed out that the going rate was quoted at a particular location, and his place wasn't it.
The only reason I point this out is because I just got used to the fact that commodities dealers set a published price for wheat or brass, but it's the local dealer who sets and pays the local price.

Yes, but I'm not expecting to get spot prices on brass.  The reason I wanted a web site to see what brass is going for, is to just check online from time to time to see when metal prices spike, which would be a good time to sell.  Brass doesn't take up much room in the garage and I would be more then happy to let it sit for years to get the best price instead of selling when it's low.

Is there no where that has a site?

Although google is my friend, several of those sites you had to join to get prices or the prices listed were 2 weeks old.

I guess I should have asked if anyone had a good site they recommended to check brass scrap prices.

Last week I took out 110 lbs of brass including some shavings from the trimmer and a bunch of lose, fired primers.  My scrap yard took the whole lot and without any hassles and gave me a check for $220.

whatever the going actual rate is, the local guys won't give that to you. They want to make the most money they can. The two places I deal with are shady.

I don't expect for them to give me spot prices.  However, what my plan is, was to watch the spot prices so I know when the price of scrap is up, so I can then start calling around to see who is going to give me the best price.

I took 229 pounds of shells in right before Christmas, was $1.95 a pound for all clean brass shells. Also had some scrap that was 100% brass and they gave me $2.00 a pound for that. Got a check for $447.00 I think it might be up a little more now too. I'm already saving up for the next round.

Do most places that accept scrap cases also take decapped primers with no hassle? I probably have 20 pounds of decapped primers I've been collecting for some ungodly reason. As I am a CCI man, these are mostly all nickel plated. I have always been curious if those could be recycled.

The place I took my brass to took them without saying a word. Had about 15 pounds of them in a jug separated from the other brass. I don't see it being a problem.

Auction price for 5.56 brass shell casings from gov't sale last month was over $2.15/pound including dunnage and packing crates/barrels in the weight., and came to ~5 cents/shell after buyers premium and taxes were added in.
I just thought I'd throw that in.
The last auction I tracked ended on the 10th and the brass didn't need to be mutilated further, as it was already crushed and perforated.

Well thats pretty much what you going to have to do to get your best price.  You have to remember that there are at least three individuals that are looking to make a profit on the scrap metal, yourself, the scrap yard and the company/scrap dealer they sells it to.

The last two own a business and there profit margin is going to be higher to run the business, plus the price can vary from day to day so the company has to base the price they pay you based of those fluctuations.  I'm headed to the yard today to sell a load of Aluminum and pick up some scrap lead for about 35 cents a lb.
