Wanted to some opinions on primers, I was going to get CCI small rifle primers to reload for .223 but I see that Magtech and S&B have small rifle primers cheaper.  Ive had no problems with their pistol ammo, are their dramatic differences in primers? Again, I'm not loading precision rounds, just plinking.
Thanks.

Any of those will be fine, CCI, Magtech, or S&B should work fine.

The only primers I have ever heard about, read about, or watched them not work 100% are the wolf 223 primers.

I like the wolf 223 and bought my last 15k for 15.50 per thousand from PVI.

Only if you buy the incorrect Wolf primer like you did.

The KVM556M, small rifle magnum is the correct primer for 223 loads.

Please be fair and state the reason why you and others had problems with the wrong Wolf primers.

I had problems with the Wolf 223 primer because it will not ignite ball powder in a 223 load.

THERE SHOULD BE A DISCLAIMER ON THE TOP OF THIS FORUM SAYING TO NOT BUY THE WOLF 223 PRIMERS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY 223 PRIMER THAT WILL NOT LIGHT ALL 223 POWDERS.

There is a reason they are dirt cheap and nobody around here is selling them anymore, they don't work.

And ok, so if I have a problem with CCI/Winchester/Federal whoever... Guess what?  I can call them up and get them replaced.

How many people are getting their primers replaced by wolf?  How many people can even get a hold of the company?  The distributors here in the US just say contact the MFG.

I am so sick of the "I fired x-bazillion rounds of 223 with wolf primers and never had a problem, so it must be something you are doing not the primer."

Sorry for the rant, but people here are a heck of a lot luckier than every real person I have ever talked to about wolf primers.

Actually CCI primers are probably the best money can buy, have been since forever.

Would it help if I told you about how the majority of SR shooters in the western regions use the Wolf SRM primer without any problems?

They are generally combined with 8208, H335, RL-15, Varget, and TAC, etc. So, the key is to use the right primer with the powder of choice.

These are some of the best shooters in the country and many are involved in R&D for the industry. I admit Wolf primers have been involved in issues because of the variety they sell not being universal, but the advice to stay away isn't good when the performance of the Wolf SRM is top tier.

Does the fact that Wolf sells some versions that can't be used universally make things difficult? - yes.
Does that mean that Wolf SRM is not recommended? - No, it just means one has to get the correct version for the powder they intend to burn.

Take that attitude somewhere else. No place for it here.
