| I'm running out of room. When I just reloaded all my brass was in an ammo can. Now I have brass sorted by head stamp, once fired, twice fired, plus some. Add a few calibers and how is a guy supposed to keep it organized and not take up a bunch of space. |

I don't keep track of how many times its been fired...To me its irrelevant information....On 223 brass, I have a big pile of processed brass and a small pile of fired brass...I don't plan on dealing with the fired stuff until I run out of the other. That way I don't end up with a 10x fired piece and a 1x fired piece. |

Did you make them yourself? Edit. does it really matter about sorting by year? I never understood why people do that.. or headstamp either. I do agree with sorting by once fired, twice..etc |

Did you make them yourself? Those are my case prep data sheets. Several different versions. So I can keep track of what case prep has been done on a batch. I got tired of finding scraps of paper and writing it all out for each batch. So now I can enter a little data or check a line as needed.

I tried to do the head stamp thing and failed. I switch to cans, bags, buckets, boxes, and bins. For 223, I keep my cureent stock in rotaton, and and exrta I bring home gets put in buckets for future needs in the shed. For 308/30-06, I put them in coffee cans time they are full. I only separate them by .mil or not at this time. Then bag them and box them in the shed. 38, 357, 380, 44mag get caned and bagged, then boxed. 9, 40, 45 each get their own bucket. In the shed, and will stay there till I run out of cleaned/polished brass. Others 5.7, 32, 270, 6.8, 762x39, 30 carb, 243, 499, 50ae, 45colt, 44spl gets canned and when full I will trade |

| I've used plastic buckets that had dishwashing soap powder in them, old ammo cans, zip locks bags, etc. I also have a pretty good supply of those MTM plastic ammo boxes and I put brass that is ready to load in those with a note in it saying what they are, neck sized, full legth sized, new brass tumbled, etc. If you get the same kind they stack well and I do not use the little stickers that come with them. I make my own lables and just use clear tape to attach them. Then when you are done with that load you can just peel the tape and label off and start over. |

| I think that generally speaking it is not necessary to keep track of head stamps or times fired for pistol practice - blasting ammo. I cannot shoot accurately enough to notice any difference in group size and the volume is just too high. (I read an article a few years ago by Lane Simpson where he took the same position.) I guess that I do sort that way for .44 mag and .45 colt ammo as those revolvers are particularly accurate. I also don't do it for .223/5.56 practice ammo. I do sort and keep track for my varmint and hunting ammo. Un sorted brass in 5 gal bucket, filled to 4 gal to aid stacking and to keep weight reasonable. Smaller batches in clear plastic jars like Costco mixed nuts come in. Sorted brass in plastic or paper ammo boxes. |

Pic so everyone else knows what we are talking about. Copy some off and modify it for your use. Awesome idea, definitely going to have to modify and use for my current operation. As for storage, I have a bunch of the 5 gallon jugs that you can get at Lowes. I believe it was like $2.50 for the jug and $1.50 for the top. It was cheap, big, and just right for what I needed. |

I use plastic shoe storage boxes from Wal Mart, box with top runs $1 each. You can see some of them under my bench here, the current ones have the white tops, the blue tops came from Wal Mart several years ago, its white tops now. http://www.wingman26.com/images/shooting/bench-Feb-07-small.jpg I have the same ones...mostly blue tops but a couple new white tops. I think they're plastic shoe boxes. |
