Purchased 2 pounds on the cheap and would like to load surplus 55gr FMJBT. Should I use the following recipe as provided on the Ramshot site, or is there info elsewhere that would be better suited? I swear I've seen this question asked before, but couldn't get any search results. Thanks in advance!

TAC 55 Varmint Nightmare Extreme FMJ 23.1 3,002 25.7 3,281 54,310 2.223 Honestly Tac does better on Heavier loads obove 69 grn....it really shines on the heavier bullets. You can go up to 60,000 cups if you have a 5.56 spec chamber. I accomplish this by going up a bit in powder and using a case with less capacity like Norma, Lapua or Lake City. That will get the pressure up. Now...you should always use the load specified by the powder manufacture. |
| Thanks for the replies, I already have the bullets, been using RL15 for the last couple thousand but ran out. Went to get more and of course they were out too. I'm thinking I'll wait on the RL15 and use it to finish off what I have in bullets, then get some M855 and workup a load with the TAC. Your help is appreciated! |

I absolutely love TAC for .223 and 5.56 loads.
I have burned at least 3,500 rounds of TAC with Hornady or Montana Gold 55 gr FMJ in once fired LC brass with Wolf SRM primers. LOVE that combo. Now I use 26.3 grains... This is higher than the .223 data they publish and in the middle of the 5.56 data they sent me (via e-mail) when I requested it. In MY 1:8" stainles steel 5.56 chambered 20" gun I am getting 3250 fps and excellent accuracy (1.5 MOA or better). In my buddy's 20" Lothar Walther, he is getting between 3150 and 3200 fps. Absolutely no pressure signs. My 14.5" 1:9 chrome lined carbine loves the stuff. I can't say enough good about TAC. - AG ETA: TAC is also great .308 food. I have a 130 grain Barnes TSX load that absolutely rocks. |
