| I'm looking at the RCBS "Trim Mate case prep center" as an alternative to individual hand tools for case prep.( that I've used for years) What's the consensus on this unit or is there a better alternative? Being relatively new to the AR system, I find they need to eat more than other firearms I own and I'd like to keep them well-fed (as a responsible AR owner), but my hands aren't as nimble as they used to be. Thanks in advance for any feedback! |

I use a cordless and lee case trimmer, works good. I also Have an RCBS X die in 223 that works as advertised.. trim once and forget it.
X Die The Prep center looks like it would work fine for what you are wanting too. |

You can use any 8-32 tool in a power drill with or without a hex head adaptor. I use a 8-32 round thread protector bought at the local hardware store. You could also trim and clean or ream primer pockets using the same drill. The drill has a dial on the trigger to increase or decrease rpm's for a particular job. I have owned an RCBS Trim Mate since 2000 and while it is great for pistol calibers and low voume reloading it is hard on the hands for high volume reloading especially rifle case prep. I also prefer Redding for it's PP Uniformer and Flash Hole Uniformer and Hornady for their PP Reamers and Knurled PP Cleaning Tools. RCBS tools for the Trimmate suck especially the PP reamer and PP Brush type cleaner. I do however like the regular and VLD chamfering tools and the deburring tool. As for the X-Die, that idea died once I bought my Giraud Trimmer. Trimming cases a minimum of once every other loading is critical to developing any type of consistency and accuracy. I trim every loading. |
