Has anyone tried this with success in a .223/5.56 AR15?

I've never tried it, but you might want to shut off the gas system 1st.

I've done it a bunch. I usually set up my Lee resizing die for +0.003 inch compared to full resizing. Works great, and the brass lasts long. I usually fire them all in the same gun, but buddies have fired these reloads in their ARs with perfect feeding, so far.

I guess I do not understand your question. Do you mean neck only sizing?

It's possible to partially size the full case. On my AR, the shoulder typically gets pushed out to +0.008-0.010 (compared to a fully sized case) when fired, and I size it back to +0.003-0.005 (compared to a fully sized case).

That would be great if I was able to get away with it. But I dont think I could.

I was thinking a partial FL.

I size to set the shoulder back 0.002 inches.  That provides good function and good fit.  I've never had a lick of a problem in any of my bottleneck autoloaders.

I would not neck size, with one exception, I neck size new brass to straighten the necks and set the neck tension.
