After talking to a "former employee-a 20 year man" at "ATK" part of the "Federal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Minneapolis, Minnesota-based ATK" the "FusionĀ® Technology" was started at "Speer" where they took lead cores and "Electroplated" them with copper.  This was a drive to help lower costs in producing bullets, in getting away from the "Cup and Core". It works,  just how well?  I do not know, at the same time I am working with "Speer" 70 grain SP in my Kel-Tec. A good cup and core with Alliant RELODERĀ® 10X. I found 22 grains of this with WSR primers and 2.260 COL . The ATK gentleman went on to add that ATK found out they had to watch the thickness as it tended to "round off the sharp edges" perhaps placing a limitation on which calibers this could be used with. In looking over Federals web site for Fusion at: http://www.fusionammo.com/ one could see that ATK has gone from Electroplating shaped bullets, to forming a copper covered slug to final form. It seems in the beginning of the technology for Fusion it worked very well for FMJ bullets, but little else. At this time it seems that we will have to wait for components to be available to try out. Tell then we must be happy with what we have to work with. Federal does list a load for the .223 5.56x45 mm in 62 grain, but i have never shot it, has anyone?

I have bought some of the 62  fusion and 64 ( Speer GD ) , They weren't in OEM packaging, but are identical to these in the linked thread...Third image down...http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=460531.... Packaged like these...http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2175828

I've seen them hit and miss at the various "FunShows"
