I just want to play around with it.  I have a 20" BlackHole Weaponry barrel ploy3 1x8. I have CCI 400 and Varget powder. I have Hornady 60gr SP and 75gr BTHP.
What will I be able to do with all this. Thanks for the help.

varget wont do it.  subsonic is usually heavy bullets with pistol powder. you will turn your ar-15 into a single shot .22 lr.

that  being said if you still have your heart set on it use trail boss or somthing similar.  you cant just down load varget untill the velocity is subsonic, it just doesnt work that way an is likely not safe either, to many factors and unknowns.  Hodgons website has load data for trial boss and 55 gr bullets that is subsonic

I'm not sure about useing varget for subs, I think the lower you go the more pressure your going to get untill u get a kaboom. I used 4.5-5 grains of trailboss and a 60 grain sp bullet.

Will a heavy 223 bullet even stabilize at sub-sonic velocities?

Accurate Arms' book has .223 and .308 subsonic loading data.

Should be on their website as well.

I think they were using their shotgun powder if I remember right.

Thanks guy, I know it will be a single shot 22LR when I'm done.  I just want to play with it. I will be getting a Surpressor in a few months. I want to see how guite my AR will be with subsonic.

It has a giggle factor that quickly wears off after about 3 shots.  3.3 Titegroup with a 55 grain bullet will work.  If you 've heard a 22lr suppressed it's the same thing.

I've shot 22LR and 223 suppressed both semi and full-auto. I've shot .308 subsonic from a bolt action with a suppressor. They are quite and fun.
