What is the difference in small primer and big primers? and how exactly do I know what shoots what? And what does the #x x/x mean by the primers when you are buying them/?  Sorry for all the dumb questions. Just trying to make sure I reload with the right stuff. Dont want any accidents.

Thanks.

Your question indicates that you need to learn basic reloading so you really need to buy yourself a couple of good reloading books and read them cover to cover .... and then read them again.

you need to get a few loading manuals

there are many types of each small rifle, small pistol, large rifle and large pistol

plus the magnums

Difference is physical size and amount of priming compound.

10mm, .45 Auto, .45 Colt, .44 Mag= Large pistol primers (except for some small primer .45 Auto cases that have popped up in the last couple years).

9mm, .40 S&W, .38 Spl, .380 Auto= Small Pistol Primers

.223- Small Rifle primers

.308, .30-06- Large rifle primers

Look up a cartridge in a reloading manual. It will tell you which size and type of primer to use.

I suggest starting with Lyman 49 as your first reloading manual.
