Just a cheap folding camera tripod similar to this one. Cost about ten bucks. If it's windy, I'll hang a shot bag under the head to hold it down.

I just take the tripod from my set of Craftsman halogen work lights...  it's got a 1/4-20 tapped hole, so I just made up a 1/4-20 bolt with a wingnut-type handle on it, and screw the Chrony down to the tripod.  Works well.

Any camera tripod will work.  Its windy around here, so I do this all the time, get a sandbag or weight of some kind you can hang on it, keeps it from blowing over in the wind.

Velbon, with quick release clips and head crank, works great on my Chrony..

I don't use a Chrony brand, I have a CED unit and I have a damn cheap walmart unit that I have to keep an eye on.

It's made with a lot of plastic and it flexes in the wind and the head will even spin if I don't watch it.  There is no lock for the panning axis.  Make sure you get one with a lock if you use a unit like the CED with it's sunshades that act like sails.  In hind sight I bought a POS without the locking feature for the horizontal axis.   Then again I have a $200 professional tripod that I wouldn't put downrange.

+1 for a bag of sand or some weight hung low on the tripod to prevent a toppling of your electronics.

That's not the one I have, just a picture of a similar one. Google Vivitar tripod and choose the lowest price. Or stop at the China Mart and take your pick.

That is the one I have.  Came from Target about 8 years ago.  I think I paid $22 for it back then.  The legs are adjustable and it has a built in bubble level.  It works great.

ETA: Mine is actually a Velbon S-6000.  It looks just like the Vivatar that is pictured but mine does not have ball swivels on the feet.

Yep. The only features I demanded were collapsible, quick release head, all adjustments lock and cheap (with an emphasis on cheap).

I steal my wifes camera tripod.  Looks about like the picture above.  I don't do load development in the wind so that isn't an issue.
