| Hey guys, just picked up a LR-308 and i'm looking for anyone that has loaded for these before? I've heard a rumor that the DPMS chambers are quite tight and that small base dies tend to work better to prevent stuck cases, myth or true?? Also any tips for loading for these types of rifles? It'll be used as 0-200yd hunting and 0-750yd paper punching. Thanks for the help guys. |

I loaded for FALs, and two M1a rifles including a National Match and had no problems with using standard die sets. I was even able to use a neck sizer only for the non match M1a. When I got my LR308 some of the ammo that was full length sized would not chamber all the way with in it. I bought a small based die set and that fixed the issue. I had tried to adjust the other dies but I had them set already about as far as I could go. Never a problem since. I make it a point to just go ahead and buy SB dies for all my auto loaders.

I use regualr dies with good success. I did have an issue for awhile with loaded ammo getting stuck in the chamber. I usually run my ram all the way up on the press, screw the sizer die down until it touches, then back it off 1/8 to 1/4 turn, maybe more depending on the rifle. This was too much for my AP4. So now, I don't back off at all.
The other thing I did was polish the chamber. Loading and extraction is night and day. The chamber now has a mirror like finish. |
