| I need to pick up about 1,000 .223 55gr FMJs and 1,000 .308 145-150gr FMJs and I have found a couple of different places selling brand new bullets and pulled rounds. The new bullets are $20 more expensive in 223 and $40 more expensive in .308. Having never reloaded pulled ammuntion I was wondering what the general consensus might be regarding these bullets. Are they often damaged to the point where you throw out a good number of them? Is it worth the extra savings in such small quanities or should I just pony up the dough? I'm on a tight budget, but I would rather have 1,000 quality bullets than 923 so-so ones for slightly less. While I'm not loading for accuracy specifically I would prefer to be putting together 1-3 MOA loads once everything is said and done. Specifically I'm looking at the pulled bullets at High Tech Ammo vs New Hornady and Prvi through Widners. |

I've bought 'machine pull down' M-855 pills in the past and they were 99% good to go. I got them cheaply enough that culling 8 or 10 out of a 1000 wasn't any big deal. |

I have shot alot of the pulled bullets and never had a problem with them as far as throwing some out. Maybe 2-3 out of 1000 or so I figured I couldn't use. Figure 2-3 MOA on the pulled, unless you want to sort the bullets by weight, then you might be able to get MOA out of them but you will have a smaller group out of the 1000 bullets for reloading MOA or slightly more. It just depends on what you want them for. If you want them for short range training or general plinking, get the pulled. If you want to ring steel at 300-500 yards, get the new. |
