| Hey everyone, I am new to AR15 and am also a new reloader. Not sure if this has been done already or not, but could you post some pics of your benches? I saw some in the ammo storage forum, but would like too see your benches and maybe get some ideas for mine. My bench is in the garage(wife is the boss) and just was looking to improve my "man cave area" Thanks. |

IIRC, if I recall correctly, my bench is on page 6 in that epic bench thread. You will come to recognise my benches white top if you hang around a while. |

Many of the guys on the reloading forum like to have a really nice bench. I can't blame them. It's nice to have a well thought out set up.
For myself I really don't know how long I'm staying in my house, and when that bench is going to need moved, and I'm a cheapskate by nature. I went to home depot and got a 4x8' sheet of 5/8" plywood. They have a big verticle cutting table in the store, and will make the cuts right there. Have them make a cut for the bench top as wide as you like. I had them make another cut in the "left over" piece to use for a shelf above the bench for open storage. I then got a stack of 8' 2x4s. Took the bench top and made reinforcements with 2x4's on edge screwed to the bench top all the way around. Added some more 2x4's and put some cross braces in the middle of the bench, made legs with cross braces too. Bottom line, $35 worth of wood, 1 sheet of ply and some 2x4's are the only materials. Only cuts I had to make are on 2x4's - didn't even need to rip the plywood because the store did it for me. I then screwed it to the wall in the computer room with 2 drywall screws for stability. 5/8" is a little thin for the top - 3/4" would be sturdier, but a lot heavier too. With some proper bracing you won't notice much flex and it won't affect anything. Good luck. |

Sorry, I lost all of my reloading equipment, bench included, in a terrible boating accident. What a great idea! Reloading on a house boat, in the swimming trunks, when the fish aren't biting, and its too dark to use the water craft. Sorry to hear about your terrible houseboat loss! Too bad I'll never have any of that.
My bench is on page 15 of the bench thread. I also did a How-to on the constructions of that kind of bench tucked away in the tacked Gateway, complete with parts list. Here... |

And just wait until someone asks a question that is pertinent? cause you always come into a thread and post the perfect picture to answer someones question |

And just wait until someone asks a question that is pertinent? cause you always come into a thread and post the perfect picture to answer someone's question When I first came to this forum I noticed how much a pic added to a thread. Someone would ask if X was better than Y. If you post a pic of both X and Y, your comments become more relevant and believable. So I got a camera and figured out how to post pics. Then when I was reloading, I started taking pics of things I thought would be post worthy. A lot of my pics are from threads I posted, some threads survived some didn't, but I still have the pics. I also get ideas for pics from reading threads. Here's an example, the current thread about painting the tips of SS-109 bullets. Mis named "bulk heads" in the original post. Thought I would get out some LC SS-109 (factory LC) loads and take a pic. This would help people get the color closer to the true shade of green, and how much of the bullet to paint. Look for that pic this weekend. For the record AEroE is another great mod and he rarely posts pics. He also knows a lot about reloading. |
