I bought a digital calipers and was measuring some factory .308 Win brass to check the accuracy. I was comparing the specs in a reloading manual.
In the book, the head or base of the case says to be .473. My calipers measures my cases betwen .464 to .467.
Is there any problem with the head being smaller than what's in the book?
I'm assuming as long as my bolt gun can still cycle the case, I should be GTG.

These are Rem. core lokt

The reloading manual contains nomimal dimensions.  The drawing for the case shows 0.473 - 0.010 inches.

You should measure something else to check the caliper calibration.  If the cases function through the rifle okay, I wouldn't worry about it, but I might set them aside from cases with the correct dimension.

Did you zero the calipers before you started measuring?

Your fast tonight, beat me by 10 seconds.

Everything measures out fine. Neck, length, etc.
The way I checked calibration, and it may be flawed, I close the calipers all the way, turn it on, slide it down and back. When I close it back it reads 0.000. I do that a couple times.

Turn the calipers on,
close the jaws,
push the "zero" button.

Then measure.

Send 'em back if there is no zero function, they won't be usable.

The calipers are fine. I was just wondering about the undersized heads. Looks like I'm GTG. Thanks
