Has anyone used the 4064 for .308s....I used the 4895 for 150gr FMJ and have some Reloader 15 I am going to use for my 168 A-max....but I am not sure on the 4064 if it's going to be to slow...I am using 168 gr Hornady BTHPs...in hornady brass with Winchester Primers....any thoughts would be helpful....Oh I forgot...will be going with 42.5 grs of powder...My AR-10 seems to like that weight range.....

If I may be so bold....Gas or bolt....or both... I know that the specs in most manuals refer to Bolt Actions..instead of the gas ops....such as the AR-10. That is what is so fun about tying to find the right load....and powder combo...thanks in advance x2..... SASS |

43.0 to 43.5 grains of IMR-4064 and 150 grain bullets should work fine. Hornady brass has good case capacity. I doubt any powder will help fmj's shoot well, try a 1000 bullet box of Nosler 155's or 168's, they are available for under $200.00 if you shop around. Either bullet will work very well.
I use 40.5 grains of IMR-4064 to 41.0 grains when loading Lake City brass and 168 Sierra Match Kings. Excellent accuracy from bolt actions and M1A's. You could go as high as 42.0 to 42.5 grains of IMR-4064 in the Hornady brass with 168 grain SMK's or Nosler's Custom Competions. |
