I am new to reloading my .308 for my Armalite AR10 and aware of the caution needed when loading the Federal LC brass.
I was curious about weights on brass i had on hand so made these measurements on my powder scale. These are in grains but
you can see the differance in brands. These are resized and unprimed case's.
LC 10 .........180.1
FC.............177.3
PPU............166.4
Winchester...159.2
Hornady.......155.5
The LC is some heavy stuff alright.

Loads worked up with Winchester brass should not be used in LC brass, especially loads on the hotter side of the scale.  Vice versa is probably ok, but I would suspect that accuracy would suffer a little.  LC brass has less volume and will probably require less powder as a result.

ETA...I've also noticed a considerable weight difference between headstamps on the LC brass.  Never checked the volume though.

Yeah...that was the idea i was trying to get at...heavy equals thick case.

Is this an average?  If so, for about how many cases?  I am surprised how different they are.

I can attest to the Hornady match being lite. My Federal and Lapua cases are close in weight ~174gr. The first time I weighed Hornady's I kept rechecking it to see if was an error, but they are consistently lite. You want a case that holds more of a given powder, Winchester and Hornady are your best bets.

My Hornadys came in today..really nice and same weight as the ones from some factory loads i shot roughly 155 grs.
I am sure PPU are thicker and thats what i loaded first on some test loads to try out Monday. My first .308 reloads.
I will do some Hornadys nest after i see what these do.I loaded 5 each of 168 and 175 SMK useing, IMR4895,Varget,
RE15 and TAC. Can't wiat to try them out...

Winchester brass is quite roomy and lasts pretty long to boot.
