If someone would have asked me a few weeks ago what my favorite powder was with 55 gr bullets, I would have said Tac or AA2230.

After last week's range trip, I now say x-terminator.  I was getting 3/4 moa 5 shot groups at 100 using hornady 55 gr FMJ's.  Next on the agenda is to load up some 55 gr v-max's.  Most accurate load for me was at 23.5 gr

It is my believe understanding that X-term and Tac are VERY similar.

I thought the same thing.

I use these two powders with 55gr VMax exclusively.

X-T has a burn rate similar to 2230 and is a bit faster than Tac which burns closer to H-4895.

Ramshot recommends TAC for heavier bullets and X-Term for lighter bullets.  Around 55 grains is the crossover point, I believe, so either should do well with 55-grainers.

I've actually got some .223 55gr V-max loads ready for testing this weekend using LC 09 once fired, CCI 41 and 6 different powders I had on hand. Testing with Varget, H335, Benchmark, BLC2, AA2230 and Tac. Rifle barrel is 20" 1in7.

That should be interesting. Would love to hear back from you how it turned out. Have 4 of those powders here but have only tried 2.

Xterminator is my favorite 223 powder for 55 gr and lighter bullets. Shoots clean and meters great. Several years ago I went through lots of powders trying to find a combination of good accuracy and decent velocity in my son's AR with a 20' barrel.  It wasn't until I tried Xterminator that I got what I wanted.  I tried it in my Ruger M77 VT 223 and got great accuracy (about 1/2 MOA) and velocity.  My go to load is a 50 gr Hornady SPSX and an almost max load of Xterminator.  With a 26" barrel I am getting just under 3400 fps. Really turns an P-dog inside out and can generate some good "hang time"  Even tried it with some 40 Nosler BTs and got close to 3900 fps.

As I had lots of the other powders on hand I tried them in my bolt 223.  Nothing shoots as well as the Xterminator in that gun.  Other powders I tried included RL-15, Varget, 2230, BL-C2, H335, H332 and 748.  Have used Tac and for heavier bullets it works well but for 55 and under I go with Xterminator.

I would recommend this powder to anyone loading 223 and 55 gr bullets or lighter. Good load data on Ramshot's web page.
