I was on the Hodgdon website looking up loads for .223, and there are three loads for 55 gr Hornady FMJ bullets that have maximum velocities of 1074, 1064, and 1060 using Trailboss, Titegroup, and Clays, respectively. Are these the actual velocities or is this a typo? I've never seen subsonic .223 before but I wondered about it.

Yup, I use 3.1gr of titegroup. Works like a charm in my 16in AR. Obviously doesn't cycle.

I think there was a post with a similar, if not exact , question several weeks ago. Maybe someone will have subscribed to it and be able to link to it. It could have fallen into the archives as well, as I can remember exactly how long ago it was.

People who inquire about loading subsonic .223 are always faced with the same question: Why? You have the "because I can" and "because an AR is what I have" arguments. But those are always countered with "use 60gr Aguila SSS .22LR, it's the same thing" or "buy a Ciener kit for the AR."

I'm curious if you want to load subsonic .223 or became interested when you noticed the low velocities in the reloading manual.

I've heard of folks using blue dot in subsonic loads.

Me too, no baffle strikes.

Anybody ever do any loads using 77 - 90 gr bullets?  Granted the 90s won't fit in AR mags but can single feed but I am looking at them for my Savage 110.

TIA
