I just got done reloading another batch of .45 to try out using Berry's 230gr plated bullets and once fired PMC brass. I'm loading on a Lee Turrent press (not classic ).

I have been getting up to 3/1000 variation in my OAL. For instance I initially set the OAL for 1.255 and the end result on finished, factory crimped rounds will be anywhere from 1.255 to 1.258. I measured both before and after the fc with the same results.

I initially thought it was from the way I was holding the calipers while measuring (which I make sure are zeroed), but that wasn't it. I jumped on Lee's website and reviewed the setup procedure and after reinstalling the die I was still getting the same results.

The force of the throw won't make this kind of difference will it? Is 3/1000 of an inch enough to effect anything?

Thank you

Problem is trim length. No you don't need to trim your brass but you do need to compensate for variable. Measure two handfuls of brass. Take the shortest and longest. Set powder drop - expander die per Lee's instruction on tallest piece of brass. You should have a deep bell on tallest piece and barely a bell on shortest. Now reset all your dies per Lee's instructions.

Thank you ... heading down to try it out

ETA: I just measured some brass, reset my dies and ran off a magazine full of dummies. They had identical OAL's Thanks again for not only this, but for all the other knowledge you have learned over the years that you share with us.
