First off, I've already placed my order for the book ABC's of Reloading. Seems to get a lot of good reviews as far as a book to use. I still have time to cancel it and change to another if there is something else recommended. Now I'm trying to get stuff together. I plan on reading my book before making the ammo, but I like to get stuff together and ready for me. I'm going to be reloading 9mm and .223. As you can see on what I'm buying, I added a extra 3 hole turret to use with the Lee Deluxe 3 die set for .223. Is that correct or do I still use the 4 hole turret? I just wanted to make sure this was all I needed besides the primer, bullet, and brass. Primer and Bullet I'll buy locally to avoid the hazardous fee. As far as brass goes, it doesn't look any cheaper than buying factory ammo so I figure I'll buy that and use that brass after shooting it. I've been doing lots of reading and video watching the past couple days and plan on doing more before getting started. Can I get your guys opinions on what I have here?

Make sure that kit has the cast iron "Classic" turret press. Don't buy the aluminum press.
Take that One Shot off your list and either buy Dillon spray, or Imperial sizing die wax. Do not buy Hornady One Shot. Period, dot. Read the equipment lists linked in the Equipment Resource (it's working okay, despite the title on the header at the top of the forum). You'll need a 6 inch dial caliper, load blocks, plus a few other items before you can start. |

As AeroE said your better off with the Clasic Cast model, little more money but as your going to load rifle it's a far better press
here's a link to a nice kit , call them they will set you up. A lot of people dislike the Lee scale, I know I did and pasted it on to people starting out , I think it's on it's 4 owner now |
| If you are going to reload rifle, you will need some sort of trimmer as well as a chamfer/deburring tool as well. And I second the recommendation on the classic turret. Not sure if the 3 hole dies will work with the auto index of the classic turret, I'd stick with the 4 hole to be safe. |

I used One shot until I used the dillon lube. Need to use a lot of One shot so your rifle brass doesn't get stuck, just make sure you wipe off the excess on the shoulders before resizing or you'll get depressions. Also you have a scale of some sorts, I'm guessing it's part of the kit.
edit: You might need the powder doubler. Don't know the exact Lee term but basically allows you to drop more powder in rifle mode. I'd personally get a second powder dropper that way you don't have to change out the powder dropper wheels for lack of exact terminology. Not as fast as a progessive but you can still make good ammo the way you are going to do it. P.S. You will eventually get a progressive anyway

Yeah I assume it's part of that kit. I had called Kempf earlier (the other kit posted) to talk with them, but they were most likely closed already. Do yall have any opinions of that book? I still have time to cancel it and change to something else.
Thanks BigRedDawg, I'll have to meet up with yall to pick up some tips and tricks. Would make things alot easier knowing people close by doing the same thing. |

I don't know Lee presses, I have other brands of reloading tools, so no help there.
For 9mm: Standard SP primers (not magnum) brand not important. I prefer Wolf, cheap and work fine. W-231 or TiteGroup for powder. I also use Clays, Unique, and Power Pistol, and True Blue. 115 or 124 gr FMJ bullets. I prefer the 115's myself, cheaper, less recoil, same accuracy as 124 gr. Win or Rem brass. If I were buying factory loads for the brass, I would suggest Win. white box. 223: Wolf SRM, Wolf 223, Rem 7 1/2, CCI 450, CCI 41 primers. Do not get Rem 6 1/2, Wolf SR. these are for low pressure rounds, not 223. Tac, BLC2, AA-2230, H-335, W-748 all ball powders. listed in my order of preference. Hornady 55 gr FMJBT. The best 55 gr FMJBT out there. Accurate and priced right. Win or Rem brass. If I were buying factory loads for the brass, I would suggest Win. Q3131. |

I bought it a couple years before I got started reloading and even now I drag it out if I need to review how something is done. It's money well spent. |

get everything on the recommended list here http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=486 Sorry for the late reply but the mother link (Reloading Tools & Equipment) is in lockdown and I had to search the archives to find the link |
| Hey thanks AssaultRifler, I tried clicking the link to supplies in the main part and it just takes me to AR15.com. Not very helpful there, lol. So looking at prices, it appears I was mistaken. It is cheaper to just buy a bunch of brass and load that up rather than buy your ammo then reload that. At least for .223. 9mm ammo it seems is not really all that much cheaper to reload unfortunately. Either way, I'll be saving on the .223 which is nice. My book gets here Tues, really wish it would hurry. My AR won't even be here for about 3 more weeks or so, so if I learn all this and get started I can start playing around w/ loading up ammo and have some ready to test out whenever the gun gets here. Not that I'm going to start the rifle out w/ it. I'm still gonna pick me up some quality to start it off with. I figure the earlier I get started on reloading, the sooner I'll be saving money and coming out on top of buying factory ammo. |
| Stop. Don't load up any ammo before the firearm arrives. You are going to have to measure and make sure you are resizing the brass properly prior to loading a bunch of it up. If you just wing it, it may not fit in your rifle and you'll have to take it all apart. |
| the abc is a good book have it my self. you ordered a 4 hole press i also have the same one make sure to keep the primer arm (the one that swings back and fourth) dry or it can lift out when loading. 1 thing you order a 4 hole press and a 4 pc die set and then a spare 3 hole plate. dont know if you messed up or wanted a 3 hole i alway put just a light crimp on my handgun loads, 3 die set kind of pointless |

Try the equipment Resource now. All the links are fixed, however there are some photos missing. I made a few changes yesterday, but I forgot to make the link public instead of draft. |

Thanks alot for the link, I also got my book in yesterday so the info is flying! How is this ammo here? Winchester 5.56 ammo
Would that be good for sighting in my rifle at 100 (no 50 yard rifle spots here) and then for reloading? Edit: I ended up buying 3 boxes of 50 rounds of Hornady 55gr FMJBT ammo for $24.99 a box at Bass Pro Outdoors today. I had a $25 gift card so I bought that since it was on sale. Figure it'll be a good ammo for me to start out w/ and good brass to reload. |

I rehosted a bunch of long lost pics on a photobucket account, hopefully you can make the updates when time permits, sent IM with the new links. Thanks AeroE |

Thats the best .223 55gr FMJ ammo you can buy and the brass is superb, the best non-match type .223 brass you can get IMO, you done well(I have about 50 boxes(of 50 rounds) of it put away in my stash and reload mostly LC and the Hornady brass I have shot. |

Wow...so I followed the Recommended list of everything to get for the Turret section and to have everything on there it's about $500 before shipping from Cabelas. So much for the being able to get started for under $200. I can take away the digital scale since the Lee's Deluxe Turret kit includes a regular one, but that still leaves me at $400, not counting any of the actual Ammo ingredients. |
