I'm about to start reloading .223 / 5.56 on my Dillon 650.  I have the conversion kit and the actual Dillon die set.

I'll be loading 68 grain Match Kings and firing them from a 16" long 1:7 barrel.

I imagine there is a very "figured out" load for this combo.  I target shoot with the gun, but I may take out a 4-legger here and there, or, God forbid an attacking 2-legger...so I'd like to load both lighter target loads as well as hot self defense / hunting loads.  I have a huge supply of both Hornady and Remington brass, and I prefer VV powders...or anything that burns super clean.

Any advice?  I understand the legal ramificaions of reloading data and have read the sticky.

Thanks for any help!

Check out the database stickied in the forum...

I like TAC powder for the Dillon 650.  Cheap, good powder that meters like a dream in the 650.

I have done quite a bit of reloading for the 69 Sierra, and had very good luck with BL-C(2).  If you can find it, RL-12 was also very accurate.

Quoted:
In Glen Zedeker's book "The Accurate AR15" he points out BLC2 for particular attention, unfortunately it isn't a recommendation, in the entire book he only warns against one powder for 223, and that's BLC2, he calls it "spooky under the sun", not exactly a glowing recommendation!

If you want to use it, it's temperature sensitive so keep your loads on the moderate side.

Varget is supposed to be better in temp swings.
