Ok Koolaid Guys,

I have been loading on my 550 for alittle over 2yrs and have a pretty good handle on the press but there is one thing that has always bothered me and that is when I tighten down the shellplate until their is no wiggle it binds up in spots and if I loosen it till no binding it's wobbles (not much) and this causes some press hangups once in a while, I looked at the bearing plate that uniquetek offers but that seems kinda $$ for what it is, this happens on both calibers that I load for so I am asking how to tune it up without costing a fortune

Thanks

Once you have it adjusted, are you tightening the set screw on the ram?

Replace the spring under the indexing ball.

The shell plate is tricky, here's how I adjust mine:

1) loosen the set screw

2) turn the pivot bolt counter clockwise a turn or so

3) turn the shell plate clockwise until it binds

4) back off a fraction of a hair until the pivot bolt starts to turn counter clockwise

5) tighten the set screw

It doesnt have to be perfectly wobble free, only so there's not so much wobble the cases can't enter the dies without catching

Shellplate adjustment isn't gong to affect the amount of crimp, sizing, flaring, seating - the platform isn't changing heights or anything

Think of how much wobble there is in a shell holder for a single stage press.  Some wobble is normal
