Alright I have to ask, How many of you guys and Gals have a box of useless or extra reloading stuff ?
At present I have the following: Dillon 550 primer buzzer (took off because it annoyed me) Large powder bar (came with my second powder hopper) Small powder bar (came with my second hopper) Powder die (came with my second hopper) Hornady inserts (less .308 one) Not that I have a ton of stuff but what does everybody do with the stuff except to throw it in a box and collect it, I only load for .308 and 9MM and don't see myself picking up another round to load other than maybe .38 in the future |

I try to keep my truly useless stuff down to a minimum. Case in point had the original Dillon 550 mounting bracket for the output bin. This bracket is useless if you have the strong mount. Sold it on eBay. Same for the original 650 ball handle. I have the aluminum roller handle, so the original handle went on eBay too. The Dillon cover for the 650 doesnt fit if you have the bullet tray, sold the cover as well. |

I use some of my "Redneck Tourister" luggage (Hefty Bag) as
a cover on my Dillon 650. Works quite well with the bullet tray in place. Also, I find the primer warning buzzer really useful, especially when I'm in the groove. edit to add... The aluminum roller handle upgrade is on my list of "must get" things.. |

I do have quite a few items, many that are what was left over when I upgraded to a better component. Back in the days that I bought my first Dillon press, an RL450 I used it quite a bit but when Dillon started selling their upgrade kits for the 550 I bought one. That left me with the old 450 frame and some other parts. I've been able to sell a number of items including the old 450 frame at various gun club swap meets over the years so I don't have as much stuff as I could have I guess. I do have a number of die sets that I no longer use. I think I have at least three sets of .223 Rem. dies from when I was trying out different types. Dies anyone? HTH, 7zero1. |

Why on earth would you get rid of the primer buzzer? Unless you are hyper vigilant of the stick, that's a reciepe for a screw up. Really found it quite easy to realize when I was outta primers I did not need a buzzer going off, I still have it in a box |

Several sets of pistol dies for guns that I no longer own.
Bullets for pistols that I no longer own. Cheap electronic scales that never worked. A Pacific 366 that I don't use cause lead is still too pricey. Boxes and boxes of shotgun hulls that I don't use cause lead is still too pricey. Sigh...... |

That's not even a good start.
I would have to go look to see exactly what I have extra. Last summer I sent my brother home with everything needed to load .357 Mag ammo, except for a powder measure, and I think I might have sent a box of dippers along. I have one tool with probably zero chance I'll ever use - a tool for applying a cannelure to a bullet. Maybe one more, a bullet mold for .44-40 bullets. |

A year after I bought my Rock Chucker I discovered the Lee Hand Primer Tool. I preferred it over the press mounted tube primer, even tho it was a one primer at a time tool (like the "modern" Sinclair one Then the tray mounted primer tool came along...but I still have the original Lee tool...then the APS primer tool came along...gave away the tray/tool...will always keep the original...just because. Oh! I have a barely used Target Model Lee Loader in .243.....another nostalgia thing. Using a Speer 107 grain bullet in Winchester brass and Winchester 760 powder (included dipper load), seated just off the lands in a Remington 600 Mohawk ($115 gun at the time), I shot a 5 shot group just a hair bigger than the bullet diameter at a hundred yards. Alas, no patience to load em twice that way. Bought a Rock Chucker and never looked back. No, I have never shot a group that small since. Guess I'm not a group freak.
Forster outside case trimmer....never even tried it....thought I wanted to try bench rest shooting....never did. (again, not very Job-like) Have Lee Case Trimmers for 3 calibers....hate trying to keep the case screwed tight enough not to move...went back to my Forster. That's it. Not much I don't use...even the original Lee Primer Tool comes in handy once in a while. BTW, I never used the Winchester 760 powder since either....maybe I should.

I'm real careful about my purchases, and don't reload nearly as much as some of you, so my list is short:
I had a Forster Micrometer Seating Die for .308... either I didn't know how to take advantage of it, or it just didn''t make that much of a difference in accuracy of my loads. Sold it for maybe 10 bucks less than what I paid for it. Bought the David Tubb bore lapping projos... didn't make much of a difference... |
| Well sometime that old stuff becomes useful. For example, for over 20 years of buy Dillon products I ended up with 9 extra powder dies (If I remember right every time you bought a tool head, you got a powder die, every time you bought a powder measure, you got a die). So I had a box of them. When I finally bought a powder check system from Dillon, it came with one die. Well I want to use it on each caliber that I load. Guess what, it uses a std powder die and now all of my tool heads have a powder check die. I think I got 2 left. |
