i've now seen two references to using dryer sheets in reloading.

1. to wipe out your powder dispenser in order to remove static that keeps the powder sticking
2. added to tumbler media to remove static and help keep the media clean and longer lasting

my question is what kind of dryer sheets?  i was as the store yesterday trying to buy some but all of the dryer sheets were also fabric softner sheets.  i couldn't find any plain (no fufu scent) static reducing dryer sheets.  i didn't want to use a fabric softner sheet to wipe my dispenser as i don't know how the softner chemical might affect my powder.

is there a magic sheet you are all using?

thanks

I've never had issues with static on my powder dispenser, so I can't help you there.

With the tumblers, I tried both used and new dryer sheets (fabric softener) - they both came out extremely dirty, but I think I'd have to use up a whole damn box to get any noticable difference in dust.

I always store a dryer sheet in my hopper and usually wipe the press down (550) before I start and I always cut up a few sheets and throw them in the tumbler, just use the cheap ones

New dryer sheets to remove static from a measure.  Used sheets from the dryer work fine for picking up the dust from a tumbler.  New sheets work, too.

I haven't tried the dryer sheet in the powder hopper method, but placing a used dryer sheet in the tumbler with dirty brass has worked well for me.

Static guard spray and a paper towel work well also, without the perfumes. Paper towels can also be cut in strips and used in tumbler.

Just another option if dryer sheet choices become overwhelming.

We use the cheap great value ones.  I cut up a used one for the tumbler, and use a new one to wipe out my powder hopper.

eta: pistol powder is the only thing that sticks in my hopper

Ones that I pull out of the drier go right into a box near my tumbler.  I use the used ones for keeping the dust down and I think it helps "absorb" some of the dirt too, keeping the media cleaner.

I use Bounce, btw.

is there a magic sheet you are all using? Just get the wife to save the used ones, those are the correct ones.

thanks

ha, i'm not married.  how do you guys think i can afford all the toys i've got lately?  being single, it's a wonder that i even wash my clothes let alone use fabric softner sheets

i picked up a can of static guard today and i'll use some paper towel.  not sure why but i'm getting static buildup in my powder dispenser and it affects ball and extruded powders.  i used alcohol to remove the static once and then i tried some window cleaner (read it on another forum) to do the same.  the alcohol worked but it didn't last long.  the window cleaner didn't do the job.  i don't have anything big and metal in my work room to try to ground my dispenser to, my reloading bench is all wood.

i have to laugh at how stupid this problem is.  i'm just glad i've still got all my fingers

i do appreciate the insight guys.  you've insprired me to get some unscented dryer sheets.  soft undies...that's gonna be nice...

Get ya to the dollar stores and buy cheap ones with no scent. Those are magic things for not just reloading help, tie one in the adjuster of your baseball cap to keep the bugs off your neck and around the upper part of the body. They will also work with not much rubbing to take the dark dirty grunge off your car finish if you park outside and are in forested areas with popple, birch oak ect. and do not clean it only if it rains

I use the Bounce Free dryer sheets (no scent).  When I am done with a reloading session I empty the powder out of the hopper and put in a dryer sheet.  Seems to help keep the static down.

Isn't it nice to know all the extra stuff you can use the dryer sheets for besides keeping your skirt from riding up from static cling?

For tumbling, I use the dryer sheets from Costco (kickland) and they work great.  I am really happy with this method, it has worked great for me.

Turtle wax, at least 6 hours in the tumbler, and a dryer sheet is my Key for shiny brass.  Easy process too.

YMMV.

They also work great for the soap scum off glass shower doors.  It's effortless.
