| I have just recently bought an AR .223. It is a Rock River with a stainless steel 20" bull barrel on it. I am wanting to reload some shells for it and I was just curious about what people have found successful in powder and bullet types? |

Check the reloading forum in The Armory section.
Your question is a bit broad - it's like asking "I want to go racing, what should I try?" Bike, motorcycle, car, drag, road course, etc. For plinking loads, 55gr Hornady FMJBTs, CCI #41 primers, LC brass, and H335 are very common. But there's probably a dozen powders that work well, and 2x-3x the bullet selection. |
| any of the 55 grain FMJBT,hornady, winchester etc bulk bullet components will work just fine.I use Hodgdon 322 or IMR 4198.I like the H322 as it meters perfectly.I also like the IMR 4198 but is tougher to meter as it is longer grain but it is a great powder for the 5.56.Buy your bullets in bulk as you can save a bundle that way, same with primers and powder. |

There are lots of combinations of powder and bullets that work well in 223. It's quite a nice cartridge to load for. If you're just interested in load data, there is a sticky in the reloading forum that lists members' tested loads. You can also get free load data from the websites of most powder manufacturers. If you want to know more about reloading in general, I would buy and read The ABCs of Reloading, or for that matter, any reputable reloading manual. It will contain all the basic information you need to know to get started. |
| i started realing reloading manuals 2 weeks ago , watched some vids and asked some questions here and in chat room . got all the stuff needed for about 300$ and 1st loads were outstanding and so much cheaper than retail .. learn and do it , its easy and you will kick your self for not doing it sooner |

I am wanting to reload some shells for it and I was just curious about what people have found successful in powder and bullet types? Welcome to Arfcom. Read the FAQ's and Tutorials at the top of the page. Start with 55 gr FMJBT's, and Ball powder. BLC2, Tac, AA-2230, H-335, and W-748. |

just bought some 50 grain nosler soft point second off of shootersproshop dot com. cheap and should be some good plinking bullets. for my .22 cals i usually use 50 grain nosler b-tips or 50 grain hornady v-max's. bit more expensive than the FMJBT's out there, but i also shoot gophers with my plinking loads, and want an expanding bullet. mind you that FMJ's wont expand on gophers, to my knowledge. |
