I am going to be loading some 10mm's today first it will be 170gr SWC HLC @26-28BNH with Bluedot starting @ 8.5 gr I will load three groups in .5gr increments and then I am going to load a group with unique also with the same bullet |

Ok so I shot a box of AE 180Gr FMJ and some 170gr SWC with 8.6 blue dot and a Win LG primer it seemed almost identical a hair more juice with the blue dot but its hard to tell since one was 170 gr SWC and one was FMJ ......So I think I need to load a few more to be sure..... |

Going by "feel" is not going to tell you much. I can give you two loads that "seem almost identical" but one will be 200 fps. faster. The burning rate of the powder will have a large influence on how the fired shot "feels", and is not a good indicator of bullet velocity. A cheap chronograph can give you a much better idea of where you are. My Speer manual shows 10.0 gr. of Blue Dot to be a starting load for a plated bullet. I've used 10.5 with a 180 gr. JHP to give me 1226 fps. from a Colt Delta, and 1110 from a Glock 29. I haven't shot any American Eagle over the chronograph, but when I compared 10mm 180 gr. Federal (who makes AE) Hydra-Shock in the Glock 29 to .40 Fed. 180 gr. Hydra-Shock in a Glock 23, I found the 10mm load was traveling a whole 14 fps. faster than the .40 load. If the AE loads are similar, you are comparing your handloads to a modest .40 S&W load. Maybe not the best to compare to. |

Quoted: Well IMHO feel can tell you a lot if you know your gun and your loads. I was just emptying out some cheep ammo not really doing a comparison i found In the almost new box at my local fun shop and I have shot a lot of the AM FED 10mm ammo types. How can you compare loads like that with different loads and different guns nothing is really going to be the same from Colt Delta-G29 or a G29-G23 ? Like
I am sure my load is right around 950-1000 fps but thanks for your input . the extra juice is from a lighter round a bit more crack with a bit less recoil but "almost identical " Hey I have been loading for a long time but i think I will buy a chrno graph just to prove my point .... |
