I was wondering, for those of you that cast your own bullets. When you go to a tire shop or other similar auto repair place, how do you guys go about asking them about getting their WW?

i have tried ALL local tire shops and stealerships.
i had 0% success.
i tried asking for a manager, asking employees, asking service reps.
all i got was a bunch of bull that lead is toxic and controlled by the state, the company has a contract with a scrap yard, a employee has dibs on the lead. etc
i buy mine from a scrap yard for 10-20 cents a pound.

"Hi, I was just curious what you do with your old wheelweights...do you sell them for scrap? I'd like to buy some."

TAKE YOUR OWN BUCKETS.

I found that instead of calling all those places it much easier to just go to the parking lot at Wal-Mart with a pair of pliers and a bucket .... they are everywhere!!!!

I bought a fishing sinker mold and cast up a bunch of sinkers. I then take a cup full of them and ask if anybody there fishes? If so I whip out the can of sinkers and ask can you use these? I'll leave a bucket and tell 'um to fill it with WW's and I'll keep them in sinkers for free.
Another source is an indoor range. They have buckets of scrap lead cleaned from the traps.
One of the local ranges sells a 5 gallon bucket for $5.00. I mix this with WW's to stretch my lead stash.
