I have 2 Dillon 650's and they both work great with all calibers except my 45's. i am always having primer loading issues and some sizing issues. After about 50 rounds, i have to take of the plate, wipe it down, pull of the primer unit and put it back together. I am thinking it's all the powder that pops out during reloading. The 45's are so short and have a wide opening that i get the most powder spillage than any other caliber. Also i think the 45's put alot of strain on the 650's.
Has anyone had similar problems? And do you have any suggestions?

thanks

Here's my thoughts.

45ACP doesn't require much force at all to resize and load, so if its taking a noticeable amount of force to operate the press then something is wrong, binding up, etc.

If you are loosing powder by vibration / movement of the press then you need to analyze whats causing the motion. Is your press securely mounted to a solid bench? Are you making jerky motions with the handle, etc. Or maybe just plain trying to work it too fast causing the shell plate to spin too fast?

Lube the cases, makes a world of difference in ease of press operation.  Go to brianenos.com and read the 650 tips and tricks thread, lots of good stuff there.

Call Dillon!!!

45's were a major problem for me.  They loaded beautifully but would not fit in my 45's. Even after taking the machine totally apart, readjusting everything, it

was solved by making sure the shell plate was not too tight.  Also I had used the incorrect lubricant on the shaft and this caused binding on the stroke.

I discussed this at length with Dillon and read the book 20 times and now it is a breeze.

Good luck

Yeah, call Dillon.  I've reloaded tens of thousands of 45 on my 650 and had similar problems at one point. Per dillon, I took it apart, cleaned, replaced some parts, lubed, and re-assembled. GTG.  If that didn't do it for you, call them.  Those guys have heard about every problem imaginable.  And they always seem in good humor.

Guess I've been lucky... I've had pretty good luck loading 45 on mine.  I'm watching the thread though.  If all of you have had issues then, I suppose it's worth watching... I've loaded probably 10k 45 acp on mine without issue.
