The title is misleading.  I have had lots of primers the entire time.  However, last May I ordered 1,000 SR, and 1,000 LR from cabelas.  Today I was visited by the UPS man with part of my order.  1,000 winchester LR primers.  Thats right, almost 7 months after i ordered them.  I had kind of forgot they were even on back order.  Maybe by next May the SR primers will show up.

Weird... I haven't had much trouble finding primers at cabela's lately.  Large rifle seems to be the most scarce I guess.  SR I just walk in and buy.  Hell they had some yesterday even.

I use Federal 210 Large Rifle primers for 7.7x58 Jap. I shoot it the least frequently, but I try to shoot it twice a year at a match at one of my ranges. None to be had. Grafs is expecting some 6-10!

1k would last me years. I could work up a load with some CCI large rifle primers I have a bunch of, but the Match Kings aren't cheap! I think I have 130 or so. I hate to show up not having shot it in six months. Maybe I'll try some CCIs. Who knows, might cut my groups by 50%.

I got part of my order from last May just a few days ago.   I got 5k CCI large rifle.  They still have the 5k Remington small pistol on backorder.

I can finally, almost say I have enough primers to last me a good long while.

After '94, I never let my primer stash of any type go below 1k, after the latest mess, I think i'll bump that minimum up to 5k.

Have 4000 pistol primers on back order @ Graf & Sons... been that way for 3 months. However, if I make the drive to their Mexico, Mo retail store which is connected to the mail order call center and warehouse.....the place where i placed my back order..... in their retail store I can buy pistol primers @ a rate of 1000 per day. Mr. Potterfield and my self occasionally exchange emails and he boasts of not being able to keep primers in MidwayUSA's warehouse for more than 30 minutes at a time and good luck back ordering there....

ETA: response to ripron's post...I had always kept a good supply of powder and primers and didn't run below 1000 through this mess... I kept plenty of loaded ammunition and never wanted for anything to shoot. I did run out of bullets to load. We're back to our grandparents days of the fruit cellars as far as I'm concerned.... A years supply of everything ammunition isn't a bad idea.

1000??  Geez, with shipping and HazMat that makes for some expensive primers.

I've never paid hazmat or shipping fees in my life for powder or primers. That's the advantage of living close to Graf"s. Shipping and hazmat fees didn't occur to me so yea I guess that could make for some expensive primers... last 1000 I bought were under $ 25.00 for a box of 1000.

The Cabela's in Hamburg only has shotshell primers and around 4k sr's. As of yesterday.

You ordered only 2,000 primers?  That means that you paid $10 per K for the hazmat!  I won't order primers on line in quantities less than 10K and usually I combine them with a couple of 8lb kegs of powder to spread the hazmat charges around.

To clarify, my complete order was for 2k in primers and 6lbs of powder.  They only charge the hazmat fee once, so it was still cheaper than gas for me to drive around looking.  The powder got here months ago, and now I'm just missing the last1k in primers.

If I lived that close, I'd be broke 24-7.

Correction: You pay shipping and hasmat fees all the time. You just don't pay it double.
