Building 5.56 range rounds for my AR and Inadvertantly seated quite a few to 2.225 O.A.L. instead of my normal 2.250.  I'm wondering if this will cause significant unsafe pressure problems?  Shoot'em or pull them apart?

Using mixed brass cut to 1.750, Widener's Mil-Spec 75 graine bullets, over 23.5 grains of Varget.

I hate to back track, but I want to be safe.  Thank for any input.

The volume of the case is barely decreased when seating a .224 diameter bullet into a .223 Rem case.  I don't think you'll notice a difference.

What you can easily do is use a kinetic puller to pull the bullets part way out, then reseat them to the length you want.  If the bullets are roll crimped, then maybe not.

You're not loading a terribly heavy charge of Varget, but maybe you should correct the length of those cartridges anyway.  Correcting the non-conformance is always better than taking chances on 50000 psi processes.  Particularly if you're starting off with 23.5 grains of gunpowder.

Thanks, AeroE.  Great idea.  I hadn't though about pulling them part way out with my kinetic puller.  I use a slight taper crimp and a couple of light blows should do the job.

Just go easy until you figure how many taps and how hard to whack the board.

Use a shell holder in the puller to hold the cartridge.  It's about 10 times faster than fiddling with the collets.

I just use the puller to give it a little OAL , then back in the loader to reset the round correctly..
