I have about 600 rounds of once fired IMG brass in good shape.  I hand punched out all the primers.

Before I reload I have a couple of questions for anybody that reloaded this brass before.

Is it worth my time to drill the hole to a larger size since I already have it deprimed?  If so what size should I drill?  That will be a pain in the butt but then after that I wouldn't have to hand punch the primers any more.  Any insights?

If I don't drill the hole is there any primer I should not use?  I have a couple of thousands CCIs 400s and about 10K Remington 7 1/2 BR.  I assume that the smaller hole won't effect the performance of either primer.  Is that a good assumption?

Thanks

I don't have IMG brass.

FWIW............IF you used the LEE tool (#90103 or #90102) to "hand punch" the primers out..........then, the flash hole has thus been "sized" (swaged).   So, me.........I wouldn't worry about drilling at this point.

FYI............if you still want to drill the flash hole...............

Q. What is the proper diameter for flash holes?

A. Military specifications for flash holes are .078" + .004" for 7.62 mm and .30 M2, and .080" + .004" for the 5.56 mm. Commercial cases of all calibers use similar dimensions. You can use a 5/64" (.0781") and a #45 drill (.082") as min/max gauges and be well within tolerances. Most folks simply standardize on a #46 (.081"). Note that some new commercial "lead free" ammunition uses a substantially larger flash hole and according to several sources these case can be reloaded normally.

I've used Winchester, Wolf, and CCI 41 primers in IMG brass.  All worked just fine.

I wish I could get more IMG brass, its great stuff.

Use a flash hole debur tool before sizing the cases.
The RCBS primer pocket brush makes good work of the other side of the flash hole.

This is what I do, but my steps might be different.

decapping the cases is step #1 for me.

Sizing is on down the line.

Never tried the 400's in IMG brass, but I am sure they'd work fine.

If you must have all your flash holes the same I recommend the Sinclair flash hole reamer, in a couple twist every flash hole will be .081" and most burrs inside will be cut out also if the flash holes are much undersized.

Same here.  I've used the 400s, 55gr FMJBTs, and IMG brass with RL7, X-Term, and H335 with satisfactory results.

I went ahead and drilled out the holes with a 5/64th drill.  I then sized them and in all the cases the decapping pin of the FL sizer went through OK.

The brass is really good stuff.  Very uniform.  I went ahead and drilled the holes just to make it easier to reuse the brass.

They are all preped now and tomorrow I will load them with 25.5 gr H335, Remington 7 1/2 BR primers and Hornaday 55 gr FMJ-BT.  Thursday I will shoot them all up at the range.  Life is good.
