I'm new to loading for shotgun and I need to figure out which components I need to get for loading 00 buckshot.

A few weeks ago I posted this and since then I have been making buckshot with that mold.

It works great, I'm very happy with the mold. It is fast. I can make 250 - 300 in about an hour.

I have the data from Lyman and Hodgdon for shotshells. The shells that I have are the Remington gunclubs and I also have a bunch of the Federal Cheapies from Walmart.

There is some data in my books for 00 buckshot but not very much. I have a few questions that maybe some of you could help me with.

The buckshot I'm making are coming out @ 52 grains so if I have a 9 ball load it would be 468 grains.

468 grains is in between 1oz and 1-1/8 oz.  So which data should I use?  Or should I only stay with the specific data for buckshot?

I was going to make a trip to Cabela's today to get powder and wads but I don't know what to get yet.

I only load skeet loads but I was to do buckshot I'd get and read this manual http://www.ballisticproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=00MBUCK

The Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook has a lot of buckshot recipes in it and reference wads from Ballistic Products.

As for the 1oz vs 1 1/8 oz question, as a rule of thumb, but not always, it's usually safer to use a load for a projectile or charge weight that's higher then the projectile weight you have

Use the load for the heavier charge.
Note that even Charge Bars or shot bushings will not drop a precise load since they can only truly be calibrated for one shot size.

I'd start by loading these in the Federal hulls, the Fed hulls are a straight walled hull and have greater capacity which I'm thinking might be advantageous for loading buck.

I think I'm going to order that buckshot loading manual from Balistic Products. Thanks for the link.

I have win f114 wads and if I put the shot in the Federal shells it doesn't bulge the sides like it does with the Remington shells.

So much for Cabela's, I went last night and they were out of everything I was looking for

Thanks for including a review on your buckshot mold.

Let us know how your loads turn out.

I have loaded quite a few buckshot shells for for three gun matches. I use "O" buck in AA hulls with 17 grains of Red Dot and an orange Clay Busters wad (I'll have to check the number). The load is a basic 1 1/8 claybird load with the shot switched. I use "O" because it fits in the wad better, but "O" in not too easy to find, I have only gotten Hornady and it is a little pricey. You have to place the shot in the hull by hand 3-3-3, each group nests into the one before. I may try this load with "OO" but cut the tabs off the wad and just use the bottom as a buffer. The "O" load works really nice moderate recoil, nice pattern out of a 18.5 cyl bore Moss-pump, drops big steel poppers no sweat.
