What 308 bullet are you guys loading that is a hunting bullet, but gives consistently tight groups for you?
In addition to that as a wide open question, what about TSX for groups? of course I realize results vary. just asking what you like in your gun. ETA: I would prefer a poly tip or a small open tip bullet. and in trying to be brief I left out that it is a reloading project not box ammo |

Any of the standard hunting bullets from Speer, Sierra, Hornady and Nosler are going to be pretty darn accurate with the right load. I've always been very satisfied with the Sierra 150 boattail softpoint, likewise with the Horn 150SST's.
Another bullet to look at is the old, tried and true Remingotn 150 pointed soft point. Old design but very accurate and very good performer on game. ETA: if this is a .308win rifle we're talking about, you might give IMR4064 a shot. It has consistently given me sub MOA groups in 308 and 30-06 without a lot of load development. |

I use 165gr Hornady SSTs in my .300RUM and get 5 shot, one hole groups at 100yds. Likewise their 225gr in my .338RUM.
I haven't tried them in the 150gr flavor yet, but based on this performance, I wouldn't worry. I Get good performance out of both Hornady and Sierra 150gr BTSPs in my .308 bolt rifle, but the lead tip tends to get deformed in the mag, from recoil, so I went to the poly tips. My next purchase will be a box of the 150 SSTs. I haven't tried any TSX bullets. |
| Sierra, Hornady 150 and 165gr SP or Partitions. VG hunting bullets. As far as Barnes bullets for groups, I use them in .284 and .224. I use the older XFB Flat base bullets. Barnes has a clearance section. Last I bought were $17.00 per 50, about 1/2 price. Midway has a Blemished bullet sale every year. All of the Bullets I have received have been Sierra or Hornady. Avg price has been $12.00 per 100. The case color is off or bi-colored, they shoot great. If you are hunting Whitetail or hogs they will never know the difference in bullets. I have .308, 7.62x51, 7.5x55, 7.5x53. I use Combined Technology 165gr Moly SP's in my 7.5x55's. JP |

What is your twist rate? If 1:12, the Hornady 150 grain SST is hard to beat... - AG I am getting excellent (easily sub-moa) results with 150gr Hornady SST and Speer 165 SPBT in my cut-to-22" SPS-V with a 1:12" barrel. My 1:12 Remington 700 VLS shoots 150 grain SST's better than 168 SMKs. Truly one hole groups at 100 yards, and 1/2 - 3/4 MOA out to 400 yards. Couple this with the fact that the SST is a VERY capable hunting round for medium game, and this is why this is my favorite .308 bullet... - AG |
| PA doesn't allow semi-auto's for hunting big game. All mine is done via my SPS-V. When I shot the AR competitively, the Hornady Amax was GTG with feeding. Hardly any affect on the nylon tips. I have shot the 150SSTs out of my FAL with good results, so they should do well in your AR. The Nosler 168gr ballistic tips have a good reputation also. |
| Anybody using 110~130 grain bullets? I've been looking for something with mild recoil in a compact scout rifle (bolt action). I worked up one load using 110gr Hornady SP's with 49 grs of IMR4895. I got 1" groups at 100 yards. I ran out of bullets and Midway is out of stock so I am wanting to try something else, maybe the 125gr Noslers? |

Hope you aren't hunting with 110 gr .308 bullets, these are normally light jacketed varmit bullets. Be sure to read the loading manual so you know what purpose the bullet you are using is meant for. For target shooting and low recoil, I use Sierra 125 gr Spitzer with BLC2. |
