I having been having trouble with my SDB primer feed.  Seems like it is constantly giving me problems, not something that makes me want to recommend Dillon.

The problem I am having is that the shell plate doesn't quite align with the primer cup as I index the press.  Manually helping it along helps but I still end up with some upside down or sideways primers.  I went through the troubleshooting guide on Dillon's website but still have problems.  I'm pretty sure the primer cup travel is adjusted correctly as it is centered on the shell plate once is is fully indexed.  It just seems to drag.  I have removed the shell plate and the part it mounts to and thoroughly cleaned it and lubed the little arm that advances the shell plate.

I wouldn't be annoyed if it was only 1 or 2 % but this is at least 10% of my primers that are getting wasted. It is still way faster than a single stage but I can't imagine that I would be purchasing another DIllon when the time to upgrade comes.

Has anybody had similar problems and found a solution?  Thanks,

I have used my SDB for over 15 years without having a primer feed issue. I think I'd play with the primer feed travel adjustment some more, then just call Dillon. Good luck. I have have completely dismantled mine at least once to completely clean it, relube, etc.

Call Dillon, explain problem, they send parts, install parts, no more problem.  I have always had great customer service from them, even on used machines I have bought.

Mine was giving me troubles for a while. Took it apart and cleaned the insides. Problem fixed. Found that some dirt and powder flakes had found their way inside. I take mine apart and clean it about twice a year now. I got Dillons spare parts kit and changed everything out when it was about five years old.

I had a similar problem at one point, I called the help line and did whatever they said, I think I had to adjust some spring under the cup.
It was a while back, don't remember all the details other than Dillon got me up to speed and running well.

I like the SD so much I have two, that way I can leave one set for small primers and the other for large. I expect I have something on the order of 50,000 rounds through these two machines with a few minor springs and parts replaced over the years.

I love the short throw and perfect leverage the SD has for pistol caliber rounds. The few times I have helped a buddy reload on any regular press (includeing Dillon) feels like I am rowing a boat with the huge long lever

I have 3 of the SDB's and the 9mm unit feeding SP had always been more of a problem child than the LP presses. I have found that cleaning everything in the primer system with lacquer thinner then lubing with Tetra grease is worthwhile.
However the primer adjustment screw (#34) probably needs your attention. The other thing I'd suggest is installing a NEW primer magazine tube orifice tip (31S) these wear and deform and a new one works wonders. Most of my flipped primer issues disappeared after putting on a new tip!
One last thing I've found that at some point in time they changed the location of the roll pin that holds the return spring (#38) for the primer slide on the primer feed body. These parts are #'s 39 & 28. Dillon also milled a relief slot in the feed body for the return spring. These mods mean the newer presses use a longer return spring. Well lucky me I have both styles of feed bodies so I need two different springs. I have broken 2 or 3 springs thus far so I plan to drill a new hole and move the roll pin so all my SDB's use the same length return spring. Check that spring to ensure it's in good shape.
Good luck and hope some of this babbling is useful.

I have 3 SDB's and couldn't be happier. 9mm, 357, 45 ACP.

The post above mine has some great tips.

Couple of things I do to all my presses is

Remove primer assembly.

Take a 3/8" x 3/8" x 6" long block of wood and wrap some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper around it.

Lightly sand the parts of the press where primer assy moves back and forth.

Don't remove material, just knock off the burrs.

Same treatment on the primer assy parts that aren't covered with the plastic U shaped part.

I do the same treatment with the powder measure.

Makes the parts slide together much better.

Call Dillon if you are still having problems. 1-800-223-4570, give them a chance to help you.

They have sent me replacement parts on several occasions, and rebuilt this SDB.

$60 fun show find.

Came back like this. No charge.

Thanks for the suggestions.  There are some interesting ideas that I will need to put into action.
