Last week I ordered a Lee decapper & base from Midway. It came today. The package claims it removes factory crimped in primers and is guaranteed unbreakable.

It broke on the second case.

I will send it back to Lee for a replacement.

Can't say im surprised.

Now, where's that guy that was telling me how Lee products are far  superior than RCBS and anyone buying RCBS over Lee is wasting money!

Same here just broke mine last week and sent away for a new pin and rod assembly. I found that the flash hole and the pin will not always line up perfectly. If you feel abnormal resistance reposition the case and try again. It should push the primer out. I should note that mine broke after depriming aprox 10,000 rounds, mostly military crimp. I think I'm finished with Lee products myself. My Perfect Powder measure throws such a huge variable of charges when set to a specific weight and my $20 scale sucks as well. I'll be replacing them soon. I guess the old adage is correct you do get what you pay for. This is just my opinion.

Lee's decapper is just fine, you just have to make sure the pin is in the flash hole, or not Berdan primed.
I use mine so often that the shaft is highly polished, and I've had it about 30 years, probably decapped half a mil or more with it.

The rod fit very tightly in the cases I tried. I figured the pin would line up with the flash hole each time. Perhaps I missed on the second case.
The first primer came out with one tap of my hammer.

I've had mine for many years....maybe 20+ years.

The head has kind of mushroomed in all those years.  Fact is.....I use it for other uses too (not reloading related).

I once thought that I had lost it during a move...........so, I bought another set one each in Large and Small.  It was only a couple of bucks.

Then, I found the old set.

So, now I have two sets (one for back up). LOL.

I can't imagine how you managed to "break it." Unless, you used it on Berdan brass.

Aloha, Mark

Not used on Berdan. It was an FC case.

Then......that is BAD LUCK.

Aloha, Mark

PS........did the pin bend, snap or come out?

It snapped clean. Near the rod itself. I'll call Lee in the AM and ask about a replacement.

Those pins are glued in,, you can hot glue or epoxy a new one in.
To get the old one out, just heat it up, but point in a safe direction, they really pop out across the room.

What to use as a replacement pin?

How about ,,, a headless decapping pin, or cut the head off one.

I use the Lee decapper with the Lee hand press.  I often hold the base of the case with a thumb and index finger to make sure the pin is lined up with the flash hole.  The decapper die body is a lot bigger inside than a FL die and does not always align the flash hole and pin the way a FL die will.  I've decapped thousands of cases with the Lee tool and haven't broken a pin yet.

Called Lee and spoke to Kathy. They'll send me out a new punch today. Next time I'll be more careful...

The pin is a roller bearing, very tough but not unbreakable.  Tougher than any other material.

Pin probably not centered in flash hole.  I've used one since the rocks where warm, and it still works   Have one for each caliber below .30.
Just use a .30 for everything larger.  Removes crimped primers, no problem.  Berdan need to be removed hydraulically, then you need to find primers ( I realize this is not your issue ).

Lee has a bad rape as being cheap.  Inexpensive, yes, cheap, no.  I have a Lee loader for all of my rifle .30 and below, as well as a .223 I've neck up to 6mm.  If they made .300 H&H, .358,.375, .416 and .458 I'd have them also.

Own Lee, RCBS Rockchucker and Dillon 550.  Each has it's own purpose.  I wouldn't try to reform cases on my Lee or Dillon.
