I'm looking at getting an AR57 upper that uses the 5.7 FN ammo.
Anybody got the low down on reloading this stuff? I know it's .224 bullets and boxer primed with brass cases. does dillion make a conversion kit for my 550? Are dies available? how hard is this bad boy to reload? Thanks. |

This is a high powered pistol round developed by Herstal in the '80s. I did find one recipe for a 16.5" bbl, so apparently somebody does load this for a carbine length barrel.
40gn Hornady VMax, Accurate AA-5, 6.5gn, 2352 FPS, K.E.= 491 ft. lbs., 16.25" bbl, O.A.L. 1.570", small rifle primers. The specifier considers this a maximum load. I think he bought the brass from FN, then handloaded the round. Start out at a lower powder load. YMMV. |

Quoted:
IF its the same chamber that FN uses you cant reload the brass. Cause the chamber on the PS90 i shot was oversive for reliablity so my buddie(the owner of the PS90) couldnt reload them. SORRY You should still be able to reload those, FL sizer dies bring brass back to being in spec....unless yer buddy was trying neck size the brass I cant see why he had a problem with it......I've known a couple of people who reload succesfully for both the PS90 and the FN five-seven. |
| Eliteammunition makes a shellplate for the Dillon 550, and a trimmer attachment for an RCBS trim pro. They also sell pulled projectiles. Ramshot has load data, RCBS sells dies.... I don't see any other reason not to load it. I plan on starting eventually when I have enough brass stored up. Brass is the only component you can not find new, or even once fired for that matter. At $.40 cents a round, I think it is a worthwhile investment if you shoot it enough. |
