I have a Wilson gauge in 7.62X39, and even with my C-H sizing die screwed in ALL the way so that the toggle linkage is "sprung," my sized cases (Federal in this case) won't go all the way into the gauge.  I haven't gotten the AK out of the safe to check if the sized cases fit-not yet.  But is it possible that my 25 year-old C-H die is out of spec?  Or is the Wilson gauge more likely wrong?

I would make 5 or so dummy rounds, load them in a mag and see if they feed and eject ok. AK brass is notorious for dinging up the rims. A rim ding will make the case not fit in the case gage.  It's even possible you're oversizing the brass at this point.   I was tossing out about 1/4 of my reloadable 762x39 cases until I realized that rim dings were the culprit.  I use Hornady dies on a Rock Chucker to size my 762x39 cases

The only time I've ever seen the need for camming over is when using non Dillon rifle dies on a Dillon 550 or 650 for rifle rounds

Get a small file and clean up the rims of the cases you want to set your FL die with. Once fired is preferable.

In 7.62 x 39, I am sizing using Lee dies in 550 or Rockchucker (2 sets of dies) and have a Wilson case gauge.

I am using Win, IMI and FC brass. All gauge just fine.

If the burr is not large, insert brass backwards into case gauge about 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

Wiggle the case, most of the time this will fix the burr, and case will gauge.

If not, then get a file.

This also works with 223.

The dimensions of these gages is so close that tiny invisible dimensional problems in the rim prevent the case from entering the gage.

Turn the case around and try putting the case head into the die.  That will immediately show whether the rim is the hang up.

I wish it was just the rims being a problem.  It's well in front of the rim that the cases stick in the gauge.  Maybe 1/4" on some of them.  I'll get a picture or two shortly to demonstrate.

OK, I just learned that focus and attention to detail are important.  Fully sized cases DO fit the case guage without any problem at all except for an occasional ding in the rim.  Some cases that I hadn't properly sized do not fit the gauge-my sizing die doesn't go deep enough into the tool head of my L-n-L AP press, and I managed to "partially size" a handful of cases that way.  So...  I goofed and didn't keep the two sets of cases separate enough.

I'm still stuck for the moment with a sizing die I can't use in my AP press, but come payday I expect to order a bunch of Dillon lock rings and a wrench, and that should do the trick.  Thanks for the advice, folks.

I hate it when cases don't get sized correctly.

Glad you figured it out, and let us know the problem.

I would not leave anyone hanging-it drives me bats when other people do that.

Almost certain this is your problem

See it with .223 cases

Edit:

For the cases that still don't fit, resize 3 times rotating the case by 1/8 or 1/4 turn.  Check the case after this.

Once I actually fully sized them all, they all fit the gauge.  (Except for the few with burs on the rims, of course, and that's an easy fix.)
